Work at John Reed WeHo Resumes as SaMo Location Celebrates Grand Opening

Construction work inside the upcoming John Reed Fitness West Hollywood has resumed after months of silence inside the former home of the 24-Hour Fitness Super Sport gym. The activity inside the WeHo location at 8612 Santa Monica Blvd began last month as John Reed Fitness Santa Monica celebrated its grand opening at 1202 3rd Street Promenade, on the weekend of Friday, June 23rd through Sunday, June 25th, 2023.

According to the City of West Hollywood’s eTRAKiT portal, drywall work was completed inside the building and improvements have been made to a new dry sauna. A peek inside shows that the ceiling in what used to the main lobby is still exposed but a lot of progress has been made in the area facing Westmount Dr.

According to photos take during WeHo Pride weekend, it looks like they are working in the back pool area. It is still not clear if they are keeping the pool. According to rumors, they wanted an indoor pool, but that doesn’t seem to be likely.

Just got back from The Santa Monica location and here are my unbiased observations Pros -size, it’s pretty massive -equipment although not quite as good as Gold’s in Venice there is a lot and it’s brand new -very clean -price is very reasonable for what you get Cons -parking could be an issue at popular times -no towel service -when I walked up was approached by 4 homeless people -employees were nice but I could tell didn’t want to be there and were not overly helpful. -a lot of wasted space especially in the lobby where they have these like… Read more »

…Okay so they totally waste space. But I don’t get the weird jab justifying gym prices in this city. If they can get 1500 members that’s 150000 a month. Everyone in this town has stockholm syndrome when it comes to gym prices. Gyms should all be under 100.

When it closes, Planet Fitness should move in lol. You don’t need to pay $250 to have a perfect body.

It’s only half that amount for John Reed. They have 2 packed locations in other LA areas.

Why do you think it will close? Crunch and Equinox are filled to the brim with people almost all day long. They charge $80-$250 for memberships

Bring back the West Hwd Athletic Club!! Oops too late. You could cruise the showers, you could work out shirtless (health code violation), you could read the escort section of frontiers at the pool and identify the headless hookers in it by the tattoos and nipple shapes of the pool dwellers! Crazy cop Mitch Grobeson unexpectedly plowed me with his massive dong in the locker room one night. Crikey!

I checked out the Santa Monica location and it’s pretty incredible.

All the detractors are probably older people who don’t understand the demand for a nice new clean gym.

You should see how packed Crunch and Equinox are in West Hollywood…

Your rumor about $250 is BS. They aren’t even close to charging that amount.

This location could be more than their others because of the pool, but I doubt it will be more than $150 (a fair price for a modern gym in 2023)

    1. The gym memberships were to be $135 a month.
    2. I heard from a friend that works there they want to raise it to $250 a month to be competitive with equinox
    3. 3. raising the price of the memberships is Not going to fly!
