‘With Gratitude and Hope…’ – Sepi Shyne Concedes Loss in Run for Congress

West Hollywood council member and former Mayor, Sepi Shyne has conceded her loss in her bid for the runoffs in the race for a United States Representative, 30th District seat currently occupied by Adam Schiff.

In the top-two primary for California’s 30th Congressional District held on March 5, 2024, a total of fifteen candidates vied for the position. Among them, four candidates distinguished themselves through notable endorsements, successful fundraising efforts, and significant attention from local media: Mike Feuer (D), Laura Friedman (D), Nick Melvoin (D), and Anthony Portantino, Jr. (D).

Incumbent Adam Schiff chose to run for the U.S. Senate rather than seek re-election, thereby leaving the congressional seat vacant.

Current results show State Assemblymember Laura Friedman in the lead with 22,296 and Republican Alex Balekian in second with 17,137 votes.

Councilmember Shyne is currently at 1,081 votes, but that number may change as more ballots are counted, but she admits it will not be enough to qualify for the runoffs.

Shyne’s full statement is as follows:

As the results come in, it is clear that we will not be moving forward to the runoff. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you who believed in, worked on, volunteered for and supported our campaign and my vision for our future. Your support, energy, and commitment have been the true heartbeat of this journey.

Though the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, our campaign’s spirit and goals remain undiminished. Together, we’ve highlighted critical issues and ignited important conversations that must continue for the betterment of our district.

In the coming days, I intend to meet with the leading Democratic candidate to discuss our district’s future and our shared priorities. My endorsement will be thoughtfully considered, based on these discussions and the best interests of our community.

I remain dedicated to our shared vision. This is not an end, but a new chapter in our collective effort to create a brighter, more inclusive future.

    With gratitude and hope,
    Sepi Shyne

Assuming none of the also rans spent any money after the most recent FEC filings they still have cash on hand for future campaigns. Sepi has over 60k. Savage over 350k. Even Maebe managed to hold onto 13k.

Looks like we need Public Campaign Financing as opposed to dark money interests from super PACs and shadowy nonprofits that shield donors’ identities (like the Kochs and Mercers).

Shame to see all the right-wing racist internet trolls coming out to hate on Sepi Shyne, Esq. like her NOT winning bid for the runoffs in the race for a United States Representative is some type of great failure. Her biggest problem is her fear of taking progressive positions that really upset reactionaries. I supported Maebe A. Girl who had a rather good showing considering her limited resources and, facing considerable hostility not only at her personally but, also for support of oppressed minority groups (like Palestinians) and for being a genuine progressive. Note to Sepi, this actually helped her

Ginning up support from extremists to gain votes in a primary is not a path to victory for candidates on either end of the spectrum.

Appealing to fear and racism has been the republican play book from Nixon, Reagan, and on to Trump. Tragically poor and undereducated whites see the outright meanness of republicans as a form of strength or real power they need to help them survive. This is made worse by the lack of a genuine Left Opposition NOT only to call out reactionary policy and it’s failures but, to reassure some very concerned people there are realistic positive options that will work for them.

Hey, Sepi, don’t run again for City Council. You’d be lucky if you got 1,000 votes. I know you and Erickson are most likely getting kickbacks from Block by Blockhead, which should be cleaning the alleys of homeless sewage rather than walking around like incompetent safety folk.

So she has to take time to consider whether she will endorse the Democrat or the Republican in the race. She’s a real genius.

It’s more like she is gonna try to get a job or campaign funds or an endorsement for another failed run at another position.

Gratitude that you did not do well at all in this last election and lost your chance to garnish even more power and influence. Hope that you end your political career before further embarrassment and further harm to our city.

Thank you voters outside of West Hollywood. Now let’s focus on kicking her out in our own backyard!

The fact this person actually thought she could win tells a lot about her total lack of reading the public. Her disastrous term as WeHo Mayor showed voters what she is about; HERSELF. Hopefully these results will show Ms. Shyne she has no business in politics and should find herself a job. Endorsement? Yeah right, like anyone WANTS her endorsement! Another example of how clueless she is.

The reason why Sepi Shyne is not in the congressional runoff is because of all the nonsense she pulled off while she was mayor of West Hollywood. Many of her political opponents and operatives took note and passed the word along that she was toxic.

Any possible supporters with money stayed away from her thus the 1,081 voters mentioned in this article. It looks like West Hollywood will be stuck with her for awhile.Congress already have plenty of nuts,it doesn’t need another one.

I guess she can go back to curing your dog of its ailments psychically over the phone as she claims on her website.

So where exactly in Sepi Shyne’s website did she make those claims, can you possibly link to it❓
