Wi Spa Sex Offender Accused of Indecent Exposure in West Hollywood will Face Jury Trial Hearing

The People of the State of California VS. Merager, Darren Agee, will see a day in court at a jury trial hearing scheduled for Thursday, February 22, 2024, starting at 8:30 a.m. Merager, registered sex offender who identifies as a trans woman, is facing five felony counts of indecent exposure related to an incident at the West Hollywood Aquatics and Recreation Center in 2018, and most famously, at Wi Spa in Koreatown on June 23, 2021,

The Wi Spa incident garnered national attention and ignited heated debates on transgender rights. The incident led to clashes between pro and anti-trans activists outside the spa.

According to reports, a judge issued a second arrest warrant for Merager on September 8, 2021, after Merager failed to appear at a hearing related to a previous indecent exposure case at the West Hollywood Aquatics and Recreation Center swimming pool.

Merager has a history of run-ins with the law, including a conviction in 2003 for voyeurism in Arcadia, California. Other allegations, such as an incident at a gas station in Burbank in June 2018, did not result in charges.

In a separate case in January 2013, Merager was charged with breaking into the home of DoubleLine Capital founder Jeffrey Gundlach and stealing items worth at least $3.2 million. Merager was sentenced to four years in prison for the theft.

Merager was arrested on December 13, 2022, and released on bond on January 29, 2023. The bond amount has been updated to reflect a grand total of $0.00, although it is unclear whether this is an error or if Merager was released without bail.

Despite Merager’s California driver’s license identifying her as female, the court report lists Merager as male.

During a court hearing, witnesses testified that Merager exposed herself at Wi Spa on June 23, 2021. The presiding judge ruled that Merager’s presence in the women’s section of the spa constituted indecent exposure.

Merager maintains her innocence, stating that California’s laws should protect transgender individuals’ rights to access public facilities.

Finally! I suspect a lot of people with pending trials in LA County will be in a hurry to get their cases resolved before DA George Gascon is voted out of office. They know whatever deal they get now will be better than what they’ll get under a new DA who actually believes in punishing criminals.
