Jeffrey Sanker, the founder of White Party, believed to be the largest gay circuit party in the U.S., is under fire for hosting what critics are calling a “super spreader event” as White Party Entertainment Inc. moves forward with a series of White Party New Years events in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico this weekend. The party goes on despite surging COVID-19 numbers in Southern California where Los Angeles County health officials recorded 290 deaths today, Thursday, December 31, 2020, making it the highest number of deaths in a single day, which add up to a death toll of 10,345 people.
“Ring in the New Year in sunny Mexico!!! UNITY!!! We are doing our part to keep guest safe and encourage you to do your part as well.”
The safety guidelines were not to the satisfactory to many in the LGBT community who are following stay at home orders this New year’s Eve.
A leaked EventBrite venue information posted on the Los Angeles Blade website has community members fuming–especially when directions ask for discretion and ticket holders are not allowed to share information via photos and video footage to avoid causing any issues with the public.
“Hey Jeffrey Sanker, our gente in Mexico are dying from COVID-19.” Posted Eddie Martinez on his Facebook timeline. “Do the right thing and cancel your circuit party in Puerto Vallarta for NYE or we will target and boycott your future Palm Springs white party sponsors.”
“Should those who travel to attend Jeffrey Sanker’s party in Puerto Vallarta be allowed back into the US after attending such a dangerous & irresponsible event? Asked Karl Schmid. “And how can Eventbrite support such events during this pandemic?!”
“I’ll say it again, Jeffrey Sanker is a vile, despicable creature, and if you are attending this or any other party in what is perhaps the single biggest public health crisis of our lives, you too are a vapid, hollow human being,” posted Los Angeles attorney and prominent member of the LGBT community, Craig Charles Sargeant. “Oh and if you support this man and justify his behavior because “poor Jeffrey needs the money” you’re just as hideous. 🎤 mic drop.”
Seargeant practiced law at Duran Law Group, before leaving in 2015 to start his own firm, Law Office of Craig Charles.
Unity was originally scheduled to take place in Puerto Vallarta. That venue was cancelled after the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board sent out the following statement: Per the current state government mandate related to COVID-19, all private and public events of more than 8 people are strictly forbidden. All public festivities in the state of Jalisco have been cancelled, including the previously promoted White Party Weekend at Mantamar Beach Club & Sushi. Local authorities are aware of all previously planned events and are prepared to respond in a timely manner should any activity take place that is in opposition to local mandates.”
The venue was moved to Nuevo Vallarta which does not have restrictions on large gatherings.
The Los Angeles Blade reports that Mexico has experienced more than 126,000 deaths from COVID-19 and is also currently experiencing a new rapid surge. Nearly 13,000 new cases were reported Wednesday with 990 deaths. The state of Jalisco which has a population of 8 million reported 456 new cases and 52 additional deaths.
As of Wednesday the state of Nayarit is under the orange status of Mexico’s “Traffic Light” monitoring system. All businesses, and organizations continue to operate at 50% capacity with social distancing, which includes the hotel industry, beaches and tours. The state of Nayarit which has a population of 1.8 million, on Wednesday reported 19 new cases and 7 new deaths.
On December 28, 2020, Public Health Officials updated an oder requiring all travelers to quarantine upon returning to Los Angeles. “For those who traveled outside of L.A. County and recently returned, you may have had an exposure to COVID-19,” reads the order. “The virus can take up to 14 days to incubate, and for many people the virus causes no illness or symptoms. If you go back to work, go shopping or go to any gatherings at any point over the next 10 days, you could easily pass on the virus to others. All it takes is one unfortunate encounter with an individual with COVID-19 for you to become infected, and sadly, for you to go on and infect others.
Because of the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19 while traveling outside of L.A County, for everyone that traveled or are planning to travel back into L.A. County, you must quarantine for 10 days. If you start to experience any symptoms or have a positive test, isolate for 10 days and until you are fever-free for 24 hours. The best way to safely quarantine is to not leave your home or allow any visitors to your home, and to find others who can help you buy groceries and other essential necessities. If you need help during your self-quarantine, such as finding assistance to help get groceries, there are resources available by calling 211 or visiting the Public Health website.”
Jeffrey Sanker Presents White Party Palm Springs 2020 was moved to Halloween Night, December 31, 2020, due to the health restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. A Halloween White Party still took place in Puerto. White Party Palm Springs 2020 was re-scheduled to the most current date of April 21-26 2021. White Party 2020 tickets were non-refundable.
