About the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station:
The LASD West Hollywood Station provides law enforcement services for the City of West Hollywood and the unincorporated Universal CityWalk.
In July, 1928, the Hollywood Sheriff’s Station opened at a double storefront at 1120 – 1122 N. Fairfax Ave. In addition to West Hollywood, this station serviced Westwood, Santa Monica, Sawtelle and other districts west of Ventura Boulevard and north to the Ventura county line. For several years, the California Highway Patrol shared space inside this station.
In 1957, the West Hollywood Station moved to 720 N San Vicente Blvd., located between Santa Monica Blvd. and Melrose Ave. The new station had nearly three times the usable space as the former station, since it was specifically designed for law enforcement use. Given the rapid growth of the area, a larger station was soon necessary.
In November 1980, a new station was built just north of the old station, located at the corner of San Vicente Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. The West Hollywood station has been praised as a model of community-based policing. The success of the West Hollywood station stems from deputies working together with the community and city officials.
