A West Hollywood Sheriff deputy confirmed a stabbing incident occurred outside of Beaches WeHo, at roughly 11pm on Wednesday night. A physical altercation between a male suspect and a security guard at the bar led to the stabbing of a woman who was standing nearby. The suspect was arrested and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital. She is reportedly in stable condition.
Deputy Martinez of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station says it is not yet clear if the suspect was being kicked out of the bar, or if he was walking through and trying to get in. “The incident occurred right on the sidewalk where the suspect got into a verbal argument with security and it escalated into a physical altercation…the suspect was highly intoxicated. It escalated to where the suspect did stab the victim… she’s in stable condition. She’s very fortunate.”
It is not yet clear if the victim was just a bystander. Video footage suggests the suspect was so intoxicated that he may have confused her for someone else at Beaches WeHo. She was stabbed in the thigh area.
West Hollywood Sheriff deputies responded quickly. The suspect was still at the scene when they arrived and security was able to point him out and an arrest was made.
“I was in the bar at the time,” Andrew Bidwell, a social media strategist, tells WEHO TIMES. “There was an altercation outside the bar. A young man–maybe late 20s-early 30s–was arguing with security. Security didn’t let him in. Things escalated. He allegedly then stabbed a woman in the thigh. The club host for the night told the DJ to stop playing music. The host got on the mic and asked everyone to come inside, away from the patio. Beaches staff then locked everyone inside for safety. Me and a few buddies exited out of the back door in the kitchen.”
Mr. Bidwell says there were about seven police cars outside of Beaches WeHo, a fire truck, and an ambulance.
Another witness says he saw the woman trying to get out of the way, and as she ran for the exit, she was stabbed.
Attempts to reach Beaches WeHo on the stabbing incident were unsuccessful.
