West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne Files Workplace Violence Restraining Order

West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne has filed a workplace violence restraining order. On December 15, 2023, Sepideh Shyne filed a labor workplace violence lawsuit against a person named Kaleb Daniel Simon. This case was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Courts, Stanley Mosk Courthouse, located in Los Angeles. The case status is Pending.

Under California law (Code Civ. Proc., § 527.8), courts can make orders to protect an employee from suffering unlawful violence or credible threats of violence at the workplace.
The court can order a person not to:
    • Harass or threaten the employee;
    • Contact or go near the employee; and
    • Have any firearms (guns), firearm parts or ammunition. This includes firearm receivers and frames, and any item that may be used as or easily turned into a receiver or frame (see Penal Code section 16531).

The details and incidents leading to the request for a restraining order are not yet known.

It is not yet clear if the recent request for a restraining order is connected to a medical emergency Mayor Shyne experienced at a regular West Hollywood City Council meeting on Monday, October 2, 2023. The mayor was taken to Cedars Sinai Hospital after experiencing chest pains. It was later determined that she suffered from a severe panic attack.

It is also not yet clear if the restraining order is connected to Mayor Shyne not joining her fellow council members on stage during the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval event. According to sources, she was concerned for her safety before a massive crowd.

Furthermore, it is not yet clear if the security enhancements at two council meetings last month are connected to the request for this restraining order. A West Hollywood Sheriff Bomb Squad Deputy and a Bomb Detection Canine (K9) were observed conducting a safety sweep in the West Hollywood Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room before the commencement of the Council meetings on December 4 and December 18, 2023.

Details on Kaleb Daniel Simon are currently limited. Issue 1209, dated December 1 – December 7, 2022, of the Beverly Hills Weekly reports that a 35-year-old person by the same name was arrested on October 30, 2022, for trespassing: occupying property without consent.

Mayor Sepi Shyne has declined to comment as this is an ongoing investigation.

This article will be updated as more details become available.

Sepi Shyne has shown herself to be a liar, a bully, and the worst thing that ever happened to West Hollywood. I truly feel sorry for all of her victims–which include every resident of West Hollywood.

See, now that’s interesting because the things that come to my list of some of the worst things that ever happened to West Hollywood are AIDS, Meth, Ellis Act & Costa Hawkins,, COVID-19, the closures of the House of Blues, French Market & Silver Spoon…

I am personally very afraid of Sepi Shyne. Her ambitions go way beyond her actual abilities. Worst mayor of West Hollywood ever.

I have lived in WEHO for almost 30 years and I never recall this type of activity in our city. The current city council is creating a lot of divisions in the community. That being said it’s never acceptable to engage in violence or intimidation no matter what your politics is. This really needs to stop.

Are you seriously trying to blame the council for the threats they are receiving?

What the hell is wrong with you?

    Why did you say:

The current city council is creating a lot of divisions in the community”

On an article about a council member requesting a restraining order?

    What were you implying?

I made a truthful statement. I wasn’t implying anything. You seem to have issues with the truth. You are a very uptight person. Go draw something or call The Artist Tree, maybe it will relax you.

One should not conflate criticism of policy and actions with threats. The former is a hallmark of democracy, the latter is abhorrent. One should also think deeply about what actually constitutes a threat. Saying that I don’t like someone or their actions is not a threat. The First Amendment is becoming the most bastardized of all amendments and it is a clear result of the lack of thinking at all levels. Social media exacerbates the problem exponentially.

I don’t think this was argued anywhere in the article or the comments. But thanks for your unnecessary input.

Here’s a highlight of the 1st amendment for you just in case you’ve never heard of it.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

If you don’t like WEHO and the people that actually built the city then perhaps you should relocate to Texas or somewhere else.

Hi there, please don’t drag my name into this mess. I was one of the few people advocating AGAINST the political violence that erupted on City property last year, despite Sepi’s unwillingness to meaningfully address it. Additionally, Annie may have a fiery delivery at the dais, but there is zero evidence of any act or threat of violence. Please be more mindful of your accusations against local political activists. I suspect this anon is indeed Paulo, who I can confirm has been telling public officials that I’m a drug addict. This is despite my years of advocacy for harm reduction… Read more »

So your first paragraph says I should be more mindful of my “accusations” and then your second paragraph directly contradicts that.

Got it. You really are a piece of work. I’m not Paulo FYI.

Sepi Shyne is a lesbian, woman of color on that dais. She has been targeted and vilified by a particular ‘Ville- age’ of people in this community. It’s no wonder this harassment has taken place.

And everyone should be concerned by this- these situations are what keep people out of politics and service.

She is an elected public servant. Elected public servants are fair game for criticism of their policies and actions. Read that again, for their policies and actions. Democracy is not some quaint concept that is exercised just one day in November, it is a 24/7/365 solemn obligation and duty to the people. Conflating criticism of policies and actions with ad hominem attack (which is abhorrent) is intellectually lazy debate.

Chalking this up to “drama” without knowing the details on what’s making the mayor feel unsafe shows a lack of empathy but mostly intelligence. Your balls will not fall off if you acknowledge that she’s a human being. She does not deserve to be terrorized just because people like you are triggered by the progress flag or whatever of her policies you disagree with. This insanity needs to stop.

My observation is that drama surrounds this individual. She has caused a lot of division within the community which has caused the drama. Never would condone violence. Calm down and stop with the juvenile antics.

The Washington Post yesterday had an article titled, “Violent political threats surge as 2024 begins, haunting American democracy”. Threats against public officials threaten democracy. If the local prosecutor is unable or unwilling to prosecute this person maybe federal charges are an option. Using telephones or the internet to threaten, harass or intimidate violates federal law.
