    West Hollywood Celebrates the Holiday Season with Special WeHo Arts Programming for December

     

    The City of West Hollywood will celebrate the holiday season with special WeHo Arts programming throughout the month of December.

    On Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. the month’s festivities will begin with a special Winter Sounds series Holiday Jazz Concert with world-renowned jazz bassist, composer, and vocalist Jennifer Leitham at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Leitham, who has performed with Mel Torme, Doc Severinsen, Peggy Lee, k.d. lang, and other music greats, will make the season bright with her take on well-loved holiday classics and standards. Reservations are not required, but are recommended by visiting http://bit.ly/WehoArtsJenniferLeitham.

    On Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. the City of West Hollywood and the Outfest West Hollywood Series will present a very special screening of Rent at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

    Outfest will celebrate the holidays by inviting audience members to spend the evening in their favorite East Village-based musical by singing along and dressing up as their favorite characters. Tracie Thoms, who plays the part of “Joanne,” will be in attendance. Admission is $10. Free validated parking will be provided for the adjacent five-story parking structure.     On Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dance Studio Showtime Katusha takes children of all ages on a New Year Fairy Tale Voyage around the Russian tradition of a Yolka tree at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. Tickets are available at www.bit.ly/2017Yolka at $15 for adults and $39 for children. Each child will receive a present, too.

    On Sunday, December 17, 2017, Puppet Theatre on Wheels will present Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless classic The Snow Queen at the Plummer Park Community Center, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The tale, in which true friendship prevails over evil, will be presented in Russian at 11 a.m. and in English at 12:15 p.m. Each performance is free and open to the public.

    On Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 2 p.m. the Avanti Ballet Studio will perform Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday ballet The Nutcracker at 2 p.m. at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The performance is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10. No reservations are required.

    On Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. a special New Year’s and Holiday Drag Queen Story Hour will take place at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. This month’s storyteller will be Frida Laye from Chico’s Angels, who will delight children of all ages. Drag Queen Story Hour is free and open to everyone.

    The print and digital schedules for this year’s City of West Hollywood WeHo Arts holiday programming includes original artwork created by, and generously donated by, Shag (artist Josh Agle). It also includes the poem “How to Shop for a Poet” by West Hollywood City Poet Laureate Kim Dower. The schedule is available at www.weho.org/residents/weho-arts-and-culture/weho-arts-holidays-2017.
