The City of West Hollywood is joining Hollywood, and the East Hollywood area for a car-free, open streets even for the day with CicLAvia — Meet the Hollywoods, presented by Metro. The event will take place on Sunday, August 18, 2019.
CicLAvia will host two outreach meetings on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 to engage businesses and residents about what to expect. At 4 p.m., there will be an Outreach Meeting for Businesses to learn about opportunities to activate storefronts and tap into the potential customer base of participants. Information will also be provided about how to mitigate parking impacts during the street closure. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a Residents’ Community Meeting to learn about street closures, volunteer positions, business opportunities, and more. Both meetings will take place at the West Hollywood Community Center at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, in Art Room 2.
On Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from the Hollywood Walk of Fame to the City of West Hollywood’s rainbow crosswalk, everyone is invited to come along for the ride and walk, bike, roll, and stroll through along the area’s most iconic streets. The event will close Santa Monica Boulevard from N. La Brea Avenue to N. San Vicente Boulevard to vehicle traffic and thousands of cyclists will fill the streets.
CicLAvia is a nonprofit organization that catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation, and good health through car-free streets. It engages with people to transform our relationship with our communities and with each other. Inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, the event temporarily closes streets to car traffic and opens them to Angelenos to use as a public park. Free for all, CicLAvia connects communities to each other across an expansive city, creating a safe place to bike, walk, skate, roll, and dance through Los Angeles County. 1.6 million people have experienced the event; it is the biggest open streets event in the United States.
