The City of West Hollywood is getting the word out about the open enrollment period for Covered California, which runs through Tuesday, January 15, 2019.
Covered California is the State of California’s health insurance marketplace, where individuals, families, and small businesses can obtain health insurance under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). It is the only place to get federal premium assistance to help buy health insurance from a variety of insurance companies. That means an individual may qualify for a discount on a health plan through Covered California, or get health insurance through the state’s Medi-Cal program.
CoveredCA.com is sponsored by Covered California and the Department of Health Care Services, which work together to help health insurance shoppers get the coverage and care that are right for them.
The City of West Hollywood is committed to engaging and educating community members about the importance of healthcare coverage. The City of West Hollywood’s Social Services Division works to connect community members in West Hollywood with certified enrollers at APLA Health, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, and Saban Community Clinic. Certified Enrollers work at agencies throughout California to assist individuals in applying for insurance through Covered California.
The Social Services Division provides social services, health education and information to the community to improve the quality of life for those in need. Services include necessities of life such as food and shelter; AIDS education; pre-school education for young children; job placement; legal services; mental health services; and homeless services. Services are provided via contracts with local non-profits and in-house programs. Target populations are Seniors, people living with AIDS, Gay men, Lesbians, families with children, immigrants and people living with disabilities.
The staff oversees social service contracts totaling over $4.2 million annually by performing program and financial audits, contract management and administrative support. Staff provides crisis intervention and information, and referral to constituents who call or walk in to City Hall. Our Social Services Manager is David Giugni.
