WeHo East Neighborhood Watch is hosting “Circus WeHo East, a National Night Out Event” as part of the City of West Hollywood’s various block parties on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Community members throughout the city will gather in neighborhood streets for a show of unity against crime as the City of West Hollywood once again celebrates the annual National Night Out.
WeHo East will gather at North Poinsettia Drive just north of Santa Monica Boulevard. The event will offer carnival food, dance music by DJ Paulo Ramirez, a pie eating contest, pickleball courts, raffles and so much more.
The event will also have a dunk tank for the rare opportunity to dunk Mayor Pro Tem John Erickson for a good cause. The Mayor Pro Tem will be getting wet (depending on your fast ball) from 5:15pm – 5:45pm. It will be $1 per ball (3 ball minimum and it’s cash only. Funds raised will support the WeHo Youth Scholarship Program
The City of West Hollywood will offer other events such as block parties, barbecues, live entertainment, dancing, and more throughout the city during the evening. Attendance is free. There will be limited street closures during National Night Out; these will occur on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The City of West Hollywood cancelled the event during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 and 2020. There are usually six to ten separate events throughout the city, however, because of concerns over the surges in COVID-19 cases, there were only three-in person events in 2021 (one event was virtual for those who wished to stay home) and there were seven events in 2022. A list of events, times, and event locations will be regularly updated on the City of West Hollywood’s website at www.weho.org/nno as this year’s event approaches.
This year marks the 40th Annual National Night Out, which began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, law enforcement, community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie – and to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized against crime.
Nationwide, more than 35 million people in neighborhoods across the country gather outdoors to celebrate their unity and their successes in the fight against crime. Celebrating National Night Out has been a tradition in West Hollywood since the City’s incorporation.
National Night Out 2023 participants include members of the West Hollywood City Council, Neighborhood Watch groups, the West Hollywood Gateway, and the City of West Hollywood’s Public Safety Commission and Russian-Speaking Advisory Board. Events will be held in coordination with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the City of West Hollywood.
