WeHo City Council Candidate Zekiah Wright’s Campaign Socials Were Hacked

West Hollywood city council candidate Zekiah Wright had their Instagram and Facebook accounts hijacked and deleted yesterday.

Wright officially announced their run for City Council on Thursday, May 30, 2024, stating, “November is our chance to elect leaders that Listen, Respond Thoughtfully, and Unify Us. I am that Leader, which is why I am running for West Hollywood City Council. Opportunities to learn more and get involved are loading…”

“So, it’s been an interesting start to this campaign,” Write shared on the more personal account Zekiah N. Wright @zekiahwright4weho. “Yesterday, my campaign social media accounts, the Instagram and Facebook were targeted, hacked and deleted. And so, we lost all of those followers that we’ve gained and earned last time around. It sucks that people feel so threatened by what we were able to do about our People Power Campaign, that they’re trying to remove my ability to talk to you, to talk to the people that actually matter.”

Wright vowed to not be deterred. “We won’t let them succeed in this and you know why? It’s because I have you all that jumped behind this campaign, that gave time, and resources to make sure that we came within striking distance 13 votes of winning. We will make history in West Hollywood. We will elect me the first black and non-binary person that will ever be elected to City Council in West Hollywood in its 40-year history. But to do that, I need you to be on board. I need you to share this message, to tell your friends the importance of this election, and to ask 10, 15 of your friends to follow my campaign account. It’s so important that I give voice to you, that we are able to work and do this together, and we can, and we will get your help because we are going to make history together. Together. Y’all will win. Thanks.”

The campaign account @wrightforweho is still down as of the posting of this piece. You can follow the alternate account zekiahwright4weho.

Zekiah hasn’t engaged in political stunts before, so I’m inclined to believe the claims. But let’s be honest— anyone who has spoken truthfully on the big issues (Covid, crime, election integrity, trafficking, “trans kids”, etc) has been censored, deplatformed, or shadowbanned already. Welcome to the club, Zekiah!

Cute publicity stunt to draw attention to a campaign filled with platitudes and a reliance on identity politics over substance. The focus on that which divides us does not square with the call to “Unify Us.” This is Sepi Shyne V. 2.0. No thanks.

shame on wehotimes for not posting a trigger warning before writing a story about a young black nonbinary person running for office. Look what you’ve done! The trolls they be triggered and trollin’. Z came too close last election to not run again. Too close to home for the trolls. I hope they wins. Representation matters.

WOW, I noticed that Women and Nonbinary Attorneys really brings out the MISOGYNY in you❗ The California Bar needs to put on a special event in West Hollywood honoring Anita Hill, where she gets the key to the city and is in the news. That will give your chamber of commerce horrors zionists even more accounts to hack. Given that Zekiah Wright has so many past distinctions, I wanted to divert the haters’ attention somewhere else for a while.

Not the candidate for me. We need someone who represents West Hollywood residents and taxpayers for a change!

Not the candidate for you because Z is black and nonbinary. You’d rather get another white dry poorly dressed suit with a bad hair dye on the council like George Nickle. You want another Heilman. You want to blame current WeHo council for the city’s problems, but it’s the Heilmans that have been running the show for decades.

Scream victim. Good publicity. Vote for the first…fill in the blank. I could care less what someone’s sexual orientation is, what color they are, what religion they practice, etc. etc. . I certainly don’t want someone in power that is focused on those things. I want a leader that can lead. That’s not beholden to a union or special interest group that is focused on identity politics. This candidate is just another Sepi Shyne. No thank you.

You want a leader that’s beholden to the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They’ve been electing candidates for decades for their own special interest.
