    WeHo City Activates West Hollywood Responds Program in Support of Wildfire Victims in Maui, Hawaii

    The City of West Hollywood is encouraging community members to take part in donating to organizations that are in urgent need of contributions to provide support to people in Maui, Hawaii following devastating wildfires there resulting in approximately 100 deaths announced to date and thousands of displaced people in need of shelter and emergency aid. Estimates indicate approximately 2,200 structures have been destroyed including devastation across the entire town of Lahaina.

    The City of West Hollywood is activating its West Hollywood Responds program to help encourage contributions to agencies and organizations that are working to help people in Maui. The City has assembled a list of organizations on its website at www.weho.org/wehoresponds.

    West Hollywood’s core values include Responsiveness to the Public and the City of West Hollywood has a deeply held commitment to responding to humanitarian emergencies whenever and wherever they may develop. As such, the City is mindful about the important role that local governments and organizations play in mobilizing assistance for communities when there is need.

    In 2005, the West Hollywood City Council first established West Hollywood Responds as a local disaster relief program developed to provide assistance to the Gulf Coast region following Hurricane Katrina. It has been reactivated multiple times during the past several years, including an active effort for people to donate to organizations that are aiding people in Ukraine, relief efforts for devasting earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, and more.

    Donations to Aid Victims of the Wildfires in Maui, Hawaii

    The following organizations are providing immediate relief and resources:

    American Red Cross

    American Red Cross is providing services to victims of Hawaii Wildfires. This includes providing shelter, food, and comfort, as well as moving more relief supplies to Maui from the mainland and distributing food and relief supplies as soon things are in place to make this possible:

    Maui Food Bank

    Maui Food Bank’s mission is to help the hungry in Maui County by collecting and distributing food through community partnerships. Maui Food Bank is accepting donations, as each dollar received can buy four meals for those in need:

    Maui Strong Fund

    The Maui Strong Fund – organized by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF) – is providing financial resources that can be deployed quickly, with a focus on rapid response and recovery for the devastating wildfires on Maui:

    Maui United Way

    Aloha United Way has created the Maui Relief Fund that will go directly to efforts supporting victims of the fires to provide immediate financial assistance through grants to nonprofits at the forefront of relief efforts, as well as directly to households that have been deeply affected:

    World Central Kitchen

    World Central Kitchen (WCK), founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés following a devastating earthquake in Haiti, served 16,000 meals served in the first week following the Maui fires. WCK’s Relief Team is providing public meal and water distribution to Maui’s hardest-hit areas:

    we have enough robberies and crap going on here in West Hollywood why do we need to get into other peoples businesses we need to focus on what’s going on up in here!
