West Hollywood city council candidates Mayor Lauren Meister, Steve Martin, and John Cockeram are seeking the WeHo gay Republican vote. The three candidates are joining the Log Cabin Republicans of Los Angeles for a candidate forum at Fiesta Cantina WeHo located at 865 Santa Monica Boulevard, on Friday, October 14th, at 7 p.m. (the group will continue to Heart WeHo down the street afterwards).
“I am personally delighted these talented minds will join our forum on public safety, a critical issue for LA and West Hollywood,” reads a message from Gabe Eisner, President of Log Cabin Republicans of LA. “If all 3 candidates win their seats, the West Hollywood City Council has a tremendous opportunity to be the centrist governing body it ought to be. And we have a chance to stand with them to make that happen.”
Log Cabin Republicans Los Angeles came out in support of Joe Cockeram at his meet and greet at the La Peer Hotel last Wednesday, September 28, describing him as a “local candidates who is pro-small business and tough on crime.”
The three candidates have the support of the Log Cabin Republicans of Los Angeles for the following reasons:
Steve Martin is a former West Hollywood City Council member and mayor, and author of West Hollywood’s successful term limits initiative, Prop. C. He has been vocal in his opposition to the defunding of the sheriff’s department in West Hollywood and is pledging that he will restore the level of deputies to pre-COVID levels and add Sheriff’s bike and foot patrols to ensure public safety. He also pledges to “bring common sense back to city hall.

Lauren Meister is the current Mayor of West Hollywood and is running alongside Steve Martin in her re-election campaign. She too opposed the cutting of Sheriff’s services. During her time on Council, she’s initiated policies and programs that promote public safety, helped defend quality of life issues in the city, and has advocated for additional public safety personnel to address the safety concerns of Weho residents and businesses. Jordan Cockram is running for West Hollywood City Council, and is focused on making the city safer, supporting businesses, increasing government transparency and fiscal responsibility, and addressing the homeless crisis with real solutions (including better mental health identification and treatment). He has been engaging the Log Cabin community this past year, is interested in hearing all ideas – within and across the aisle. Learn more at www.Jordanforweho.com

Whoa,Log Cabin Republicans are going to hold a candidate forum at Fiesta Cantina on a Friday night at 7 PM??!! That is going to be a loud forum where you are going to have to shout to be heard! LOL!
Someone needs to change the date and time of the forum as it will be impossible to have such a event with all the noise.Maybe they can move the forum to Fubar as it is a quieter location.
I am a life-long Democrat, who is proudly carrying the endorsement of the Weho/Beverly Hills Democratic Club once again. As both a community advocate and an elected official, I have been willing to meet with almost any organization that has a plurality of West Hollywood residents. However, I was unaware that this was going to be a club candidates forum. I was told the gathering was a “meet and greet,” which I agreed to attend briefly. Historically, candidates, including incumbents, have attended social events of the various West Hollywood clubs so that all West Hollywood residents are able to discuss… Read more »
That’s disappointing Lauren. LCR is likely the only organized gathering of residents who aren’t card carrying democrats. You say you are here to represent all the residents. So why don’t you?
Aside from voting against your own self-interest, it also appears you don’t know how to read. A meet and greet is different from attending a candidate forum where participants seek an endorsement based on their performance. Why would she want your endorsement? She was lied to. She was invited under false pretenses, or maybe your club president doesn’t know the differences either. I say kudos to Mayor Meister for showing she is flexible, but also for knowing how to set boundaries.
Thank you Lauren for the clarification. As I mentioned before, I understand seeking support of individuals, but seeking support of an organization that not only doesn’t share, but actively fights against, one’s values is disturbing.
Again, thank you for clarifying and adding context to your involvement.
Unbelievable….I can understand accepting money or an endorsement from individual residents who happen to be registered Republicans, but I feel accepting support from a political entity that fights against the core values our City holds dear is wrong and call on each of the candidates to reject the endorsement and explain why we all shouldn’t find this disturbing and of concern.
I don’t know about the other two, but Mayor Meister pulled out. She agreed to a meet and greet, and not a forum. They misled her.
Thank you for the additional info.
Glad we have three solid Republican candidates running in weho. Should be a clear vote for Republicans who want to “Make West Hollywood Great Again.”
Log Cabin Republicans — a group on the verge of extinction (rightly so) and grasping for relevancy. Talk about an idea that outlived it’s usefulness in, like, the 90s. Y’all understand that today’s GOP is actively working *against* everything WeHo purports to be about, right? Miss me with alllllllllllll the LCR bullshit.
sounds pretty hateful.
Why these three democrats would contribute in any way to the Republican cause is beyond comprehension. This is a ticketed event. That money will go towards funding anti-abortion causes, anti-gay marriage and other dark forces looming over our freedoms. It’s a shame. And shame on wehotimes for promoting this event.
No one is contributing to the Republican cause. When I was at City Hall, when people called about an issue I did not ask about their party affiliation. Should I not talk to a resident because they are Republican? But check out my history, I have an unmatched history in the Democratic Party, including leading Stonewall Democratic Club, founding the West Hollywood Democratic Club, opening the first Democratic Election office in West Hollywood and being an elected delegate to the National Democratic Convention. I guess if I was insecure about who I am I would be worried about this sort… Read more »
If these three don’t win, will Log Cabin claim that the election was stolen?
That’s really funny because it’s true.
That is actually pretty funny!
Good to know whom to vote against. Wouldn’t support anyone backed by this bunch of self loathing, racists.
A very ethnic looking group of “racists.” And look at you… diagnosing a whole group of people. You must be some psychologist.
A very ethnic bunch with TRUMP on their chests. That is the very definition of self-loathing. There is not much psychology to it. And is that Christian Walker I see in the crowd? Don’t let the skin color fool you.
Good, happy to hear. We’re all in this together and if we pick the wrong leaders, we will all suffer the consequences together.
