Christian Cabrera, the West Hollywood resident who made headlines this week as he fought for his life from COVID-19 complications, has died according to an update this evening on his GoFundMe campaign launched by his family. The 40-year-old father of a three-year-old son contracted COVID-19 shortly after the Christmas holiday and was rushed to the emergency room last week. He was struggling to breathe. He was not vaccinated and according to his brother, his condition had gotten worse with pneumonia in both lungs.

“I can’t breathe again,” Christian texted his brother. “I really regret not getting my vaccine, if I can do it all over again I would do it in a heartbeat to save my life. I’m fighting for my life here and I wish I have gotten vaccinated.”

An update on a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his medical bills announced his passing this evening.

“Update: We’re very sad to announce that our very own Christian passed away tonight. He was only 40 years old and gone too soon! We still need your help now more than ever to make sure he gets the proper memorial and funeral service so we can honor the life and legacy of the funny, caring loving, smart, amazing human being that he is. He had such a beautiful heart and soul and only wanted to bring laughter and joy to those around him. Any amount of help is greatly appreciated especially that he has left behind his 3 year old son Noel who will be growing up without a father. A majority of the funds will be used to make sure that Noel is cared for especially that Christian is now gone. Our hearts are completely broken, we did not prepare for his sudden passing so this has really posed a financial hardship on his family.”

Christian Cabrera (known as @chinesebestfriend on Instagram) was in the Intensive Care Unit at Sherman Oaks Hospital for about a week with Covid Pneumonia. Both his lungs were infected. He could not breathe on his own and needed oxygen to help him stay alive. Christian described his illness as “the worst pain of his life”.

His brother posted yesterday that Christian’s condition had not progressed and doctors put him on a ventilator as a last resort.

Christian is known as “Chinese Best Friend” and filmed viral videos as a sidekick to Michael Blackson. He has 112K followers on Instagram. It is not yet clear why he was not vaccinated.

OMG! Sad that he’s dead but for the family to have the audacity to start a GoFundMe page is beyond ridiculous!!! Oh, and their loved one was NOT smart. How selfish AND ignorant have we become as a society? Go and bury your loved one, mourn in private AND LEARN from his mistakes and ignorance. The rest of us are EXHAUSTED having to pay the price for his and others stupidity.

I’m glad he is dead. Darwin’s razor is as sharp as ever! Sad for his kids but at least he won’t fill their heads with deadly ideas. Very sorry for the RN’s that had to put up with him for no reason even as the stress drives them to quit.

I feel no joy in this. It is a pity. Anti-vax propaganda has killed many.
