TransLatin@ Coalition Under Attack – Bomb Threats Target Trans Organization

The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC), a prominent advocate for Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Intersex (TGI) Latinx communities, has recently become the target of a series of bomb threats and hate mail directed at its members and facilities. According to representatives, these reprehensible acts mark a dangerous escalation in the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by TGI communities globally.

The organization reports that last Thursday, bomb threats directed at the trans organization were reported to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), prompting swift action. The LAPD conducted a thorough security sweep of the TLC offices the following day. Alarmingly, the threats extend to specific dates into June, raising concerns of sustained harassment.

In a disturbingly connected effort, their offices have also been bombarded with hate mail. The organization’s leadership, including President/CEO Bamby Salcedo and Vice President/COO Maria Roman Taylorson, have received hateful messages disseminating anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, criticizing the Democratic Party, and employing religious language to vilify the TLC’s mission.

“This targeted violence and hatred against our community is unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” said Bamby Salcedo, President and CEO of The TransLatin@ Coalition. “We refuse to be intimidated or silenced by these malicious acts. Now more than ever, we stand united in solidarity with our transgender, gender nonconforming, and intersex siblings, and we will continue our work to create a world where all individuals can live free from fear and discrimination.”

Salcedo posted a video on the organization’s Instagram account urging for prayer and positive energy, as well as support as this situation is requiring them to hire security for their safety. It’s an expense that is currently not part of their budget.

“Despite these cowardly attempts to instill fear, The TransLatin@ Coalition remains undeterred in its mission,” reads a statement. “The organization urges the public to stand in solidarity with TGI communities, report any threats or acts of violence against TGI individuals to the authorities, and advocate for greater acceptance and understanding of TGI identities.

Bamby isn’t one to feign victimhood over merely rude words, I doubt she would take this public unless the threat was significant!

Absolutely unacceptable. Hate has no place in West Hollywood, City of LA, LA County, CA and U.S. Proud supporter of Trans Latin@ Coalition. They make our communities better and, quite frankly, all of us better. Invaluable work for our lgbtq+ communities.
