There was Another Bomb Squad Sweep at Recent West Hollywood Council Meeting

A West Hollywood Sheriff Bomb Squad Deputy and a Bomb Detection Canine (K9) were observed conducting a safety sweep in the West Hollywood Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room before the commencement of the recent West Hollywood Council meeting on Monday, December 18, 2023. The sweep occurred around 4:30 pm, approximately an hour and a half prior to the meeting’s 6:00 pm start.

City staff and Block by Block ambassadors were present in the chambers during the sweep. Two unmarked SUVs and two Sheriff deputy vehicles were parked in the car motor court adjacent to the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room while the safety check was underway.

A similar sweep took place at the preceding Regular City Council meeting on Monday, December 4, 2023. During that time, community members were instructed to wait outside the motor court adjacent to the Council Chambers while six West Hollywood Sheriff deputies and two bomb squads with sniffing dogs conducted a sweep inside the chambers.

At the end of the meeting, Director of Community Safety Danny Rivas informed WEHO TIMES that this was a security enhancement. He stated that there was nothing specific to report that prompted the sweep, and he did not confirm if this security enhancement would become a regular procedure before each council meeting in the future.

Director of Communications, Joshua Schare, was unable to provide extensive details but wanted to assure our readers that there was no immediate safety threat prompting the sweep. He neither confirmed nor denied whether the sweep was requested by the outgoing West Hollywood official, Sepi Shyne, who may or may not have concerns for her safety during these meetings.

Last time this happened an Officer I spoke to insinuated that the threat was likely not credible. Unfortunately, we can’t take much at face value with this current counsel.

I have lived in WEHO for decades. Never before do I recall city council meetings requiring sweeps by a bomb squad. This is a sad commentary on the state of affairs in WEHO.

    Sad Indeed!

Or is Sepi Shyne just paranoid?
