There Was an Extra Security Sweep at the Last West Hollywood City Council Meeting

A sheriff deputy called it a security threat when he barred community members from entering the West Hollywood Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room before the most recent Regular City Council meeting on Monday, December 4, 2023. Community members were told to wait out by the motor court adjacent to the Council Chambers while six West Hollywood Sheriff deputies, and two bomb squads with sniffing dogs did a sweep inside the chambers.

The bomb squads made some members of the community uneasy, while others did not seem to notice the extra security detail going on around them as they attended the 10-year-anniversary of the WeHo PickUp trolley which took place a half-hour before the council meeting was scheduled to begin. A WeHo City press release stated that Sheriff deputies would be in attendance at the anniversary celebration to deliver a message about the dangers of drinking (or using) and driving and how driving under the influence of cannabis carries the same DUI designation as alcohol.

Extra sheriff deputies remained vigilant at the motor court throughout the council meeting, which prompted talks of safety issues, specifically a bomb threat, or a possibly a threat against Mayor Sepi Shyne.

“I inquired with Community Safety about this,” a West Hollywood City Hall representative told WEHO TIMES the day following the security sweep at the council meeting. “There was a security enhancement at last night’s meeting; there was no bomb threat.”

How come they didn’t call their security ambassadors instead? I thought they didn’t like the police to be in attendance at City Council meetings. I guess when they felt there was a safety concern they knew who to call. Hypocrites. The police should’ve told them to call their security ambassadors. If they’re good enough for the public, they’re good enough for them!

You think the LASD should refuse to do their job when the city pays them millions of dollars? Okay…

you realllllly think I was serious…you literally think I was suggesting the police not do their jobs…as if that were an options. Get real. It was commentary on the council’s attitude towards the police. I think most people picked up what I was putting down

This is nuts that these things are happening in WEHO. How ironic that the same people that voted to slash the sheriffs department deputies now finds they need them to protect them from bomb threats and other threats. All these soft on crime progressives are going to find themselves voted out of office. People are fed up with crime.
