The L-Project Presents Rainbow Family Day Picnic at Plummer Park June 17th

The L-Project presents 2nd annual Rainbow Family Day Picnic to celebrate WeHo Pride on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 11am-3pm, at Plummer Park, in front of Fiesta Hall. The multicultural and all inclusive event, co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood, is free.

The Rainbow Family Day Picnic was born out the idea that it would be an extension to L Project’s Women’s Freedom Festival in 2022. The event would be part of the WEHo Pride celebration, focusing on family. Producers Chris Baldwin and Madonna Cacciatore wanted to create a space that would be fun and inclusive to queer families with children and chosen families with pets, so it is dog friendly.

The Second Annual Rainbow Family Day Picnic will offer something for everyone and will include various activities like music, art, dance, food, and vendors.

There are multiple Pride events happening at Plummer Park on Saturday, June 17, including QConn and a Weho Arts Craft fair.

“I’m excited with the way all of this is happening, especially with the Arts Festival and all the programming,” community leader and member of the L Project team, Jackie Steele, told WEHO TIMES. “There are so many opportunities for groups to support each other, and programming to compliment each other. We got a taste of it last year. It was the first time and there was so much happening with WeHo Pride during its first year, but now I feel like people are really maximizing the best of last year and making it better by creating fun events and opportunities for people to come out and celebrate in whatever way they want to celebrate. The best part is that it is absolutely free, it is for all ages, for every faction of the rainbow family and this is just a chance to bring your family and have a picnic in the park.”

Jackie adds that it is important now more than ever to celebrate our chosen families. “We really need to highlight that our families are valid, our chosen families are valid and we need this more than ever. We’re leaning into community in these fun kind of ways that are celebratory, and maybe a little bit more relaxed than a pride weekend. We invite everyone to come out.”
