T & Y Bakery has Soft Reopening After Getting a Makeover

T & Y Bakery reopens after getting a makeover. The bakery at 7862 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood was reportedly permanently closed according to community members who said the business shut down operations abruptly and the windows were covered with brown paper, an all too familiar sign that a business has gone kaput in WeHo. However, the Barkery known for its unique selection of sweets and baked goods with strong Russian roots was only closed temporarily while its interior received some badly needed renovations.

Owner Rita Davidson tells WEHO TIMES that a lot has changed in West Hollywood with more upscale businesses opening in the area so she felt it was time for T & Y Bakery (which stands for Tbilish & Yerevan Bakery) to catch up with the times and give their interior a badly needed makeover. “Everything was old, so we wanted to give it a fresh look and make it look younger,” she said, “We have new showcases, new shelves and now everything looks neater behind glass and it looks cleaner and newer.”

The bakery was closed for five weeks for renovations, and for five weeks she says people knocked on their door asking when they would open again. With the closure of Stolichnaya Bakery and Deli, which was shut down by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health five months ago due to vermin infestation, community members feared they were losing another local bakery.

T & Y had a soft opening on Monday, April 9, as they wait for more display cases and shelving to be be installed. They plan to have a grand opening some time in the middle of May.

T & Y Bakery is family owned and has been a staple in the City of West Hollywood for 35 years. Ms Davidson’s father first opened the bakery in 1989. She and her husband took over the business and she says it will stay in the family and they plan to be open forever until the end of their days.

The bakery has always been known for Russian family traditional recipes, and for offering items that can’t be found anywhere else. They offer pirozhki, all-natural breads, and custom cakes. They also experiment with other global styles as well to offer a well-rounded menu to satisfy every palate. Each item is handmade under their own roof every day for freshness and flavor.

T & Y Baker is located in the Fairfax Ave/Santa Monica Blvd district next to Just Food for Dogs and across the street from Whole Foods.

That’s very good news! Meanwhile will Stolichnaya Bakery ever to reopen? Truth be told I recall feeling that when it first opened many years ago that it wouldn’t last long in business. I was wrong. Still I miss Stolichnaya, but glad about Tbilisi and Yerevan. The latter for the record is more Georgian than Russian, however there’s a lot of overlap.
