Fans of the Netflix show Stranger Things 3 are getting a real treat this weekend with the Starcourt Mall experience on the Sunset Strip. The pop up mall teleported to the city of West Hollywood to promote the sci fi show’s release of its third season at the old Tower Records building. The year is 1985 and crowds lined up on the parking lot to wait their turn inside the Starcourt experience.
The inside of the pop up shop is a real blast from the 80s past with 80s music blaring, neon lights, feathered hair and side ponytails that capture some scenes from Stranger Things 3. The mall offers photo ops in every room. There is a Flash Studio where guests have options to dress up in 80s gear and walk away with a Polaroid photo of themselves.
One room offers the town of Hawkins pool with actors playing it up, blowing whistles and screaming at the guests not to run in the pool or splash water. The entire room is lit to give the illusion that you’re inside a pool.
There is a kids bedroom with actual props from the show. Guests who remember the 80s may marvel at some of the vintage items like an old cassette player, a vintage fan. There was even a copy of an old Sweet Valley High book.
Other rooms included a dark hallway where people walk over dead and mutated rats. There is a laboratory with Russian speaking scientists. One photo op offers a sensory deprivation tank where guest get a photo inside a bathtub. And in exchange for some of your personal info, guests walk away with printed photo of themselves overlooking the town of Hawkins.
The Stranger Things 3 Starcourt Experience is a pop up shop that will be at the old Tower Records building on Sunset Boulevard for this weekend only. The hours are from 2pm-8pm. Tickets have been reserved weeks in advance by hardcore fans of the show, but there is a change to stand on the wait list for those who don’t have tickets and still want to go inside.
