St Victor’s Catholic Church Welcomes Mayor Erickson to 2nd Annual Mayor’s Mass

St. Victor’s Catholic Church hosted the second annual Mayor’s Mass in honor of West Hollywood Mayor John Erickson and various City Commissioners on Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. service at 8634 Holloway Drive this past Sunday. The presentation was arranged by former Rent Stabilization Commissioner Richard Maggio with the help of current Business License Commissioner Catherine Eng.

Reverend John-Paul Gonzalez gave Mr. Maggio the floor so he could introduce Mayor Erickson to the congregation. Maggio stated that he hoped to make this an annual event where the church has a day of prayer with city officials regardless of their religious background (Mayor Shyne attended last year and she is Muslim).

Mayor Erickson sent a message of prayer, love and peace to the community stating that he is available and answer questions and listen to concerns.

The Mayor and City Commissioners gathered for a group photo after the service. Then it as off to the front patio for a hosted breakfast, which consisted of waffles and fruit.

“I’m thankful to my religious community of St Victor’s Catholic Church for hosting the ‘Mayor’s Mass’ again, and for former Commissioner Richard Maggio for helping organize it and all those who attended,” said Mayor Erickson. “It was truly wonderful being in community with everyone, praying and wishing for a better and more peaceful world.”

Maggio stated that Commissioner Eng decided to call it The Mayor’s Mass. “Saint Victor has been my Parish most of my life. We really like to have a prayer service for the city. It’s hard to establish because the Church doesn’t want to be too political.”

Members from the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station were welcomed to the mass. Two deputies parked outside the church as a symbol of solidarity, but they did not attend that morning service. They did relent to breakfast with the Mayor after the service.
