Scoop and Cone Frozen Yogurt Opens in West Hollywood

Scoop and Cone, the new West Hollywood dessert shop specializing in frozen yogurt and chimney cakes, is now open. Owners Ian Wain and his wife Michelle hosted a friends and family event on Wednesday prior to their grand opening to give their new dessert shop a test run. The new WeHo business has moved into the former Yogurt Stop space at 8803 Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of West Hollywood’s LGBT Rainbow District.

“This is very exciting for us,” said Ian. “It took us about four and a half to five months to put together the whole thing, and we came up with nice colors to give it a soft touch. So far, the reactions have been really positive. People knock on the door to tell us they absolutely love it. It’s been really good feedback.”

Ian says he’s determined to offer quality frozen yogurt and chimney cakes that taste delicious. “We recommend the chimney cakes with some yogurt. We’re also going to have some Swedish candy, which is a very unique, high-quality candy. We’re going to have jelly beans in 24 flavors and a whole fridge full of different drinks. We are also offering frozen yogurt cakes.”

According to Kürtős, which specializes in chimney cakes and breads, chimney cakes are freshly baked pastries made of all-natural ingredients without artificial additives or preservatives. Fresh dough is hand-rolled onto a wooden cylinder individually, then rolled in turbinado sugar and carefully baked in a special oven designed only for this purpose. While the wooden cylinder turns slowly, the sugar caramelizes on the surface.

When the cake is fully baked, it can be rolled in different tasty and healthy toppings such as cinnamon, almond, cocoa, walnut, pumpkin seed, and much more.

The history of Kürtőskalács, or chimney cakes, a traditional Hungarian pastry, emerges from a medieval manuscript dated around 1450 found in Heidelberg. This early record describes a cake baked by rotating a spit over cinders, featuring a strip of raised dough wound helically around the spit and brushed with egg yolk before baking.

Scoop and Cone will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The previous yogurt shop owned by 2 lesbians was DRIVEN OUT by their greedy landlord. Why will this be different?

It was driven out of town because they had toilet paper for sale paper towels for sale expired chips for sale expired food for sale and dog food when it was supposed to be selling yogurt – it was a turn off for anyone that would walk nearby that place it disgusted me….. the landlords aren’t greedy. They’re charging fair market value for rent. If anything they should charge more so we can get some upscale businesses here that know how to run businesses and sell good quality items. I don’t want to buy paper towels and toilet paper and… Read more »

people give the criticism a break. Try to support the businesses instead of tearing them down. The only thing constant is change and I would rather see businesses open than empty store fronts. I’ll support them and hope they succeed – creative signs or subtle signs. Give them some encouragement please

walked by again today. sorry but the recent openings i.e. smoke shop by bank of America and now this yogurt shop are ugly as heck. Perhaps the city should start limiting in window signage types. Stickers all over the smoke shop windows already and more likely to come and the yogurt shop just reeks of East LA. PS how many yogurts must they sell to break even , lol.

Walked by earlier it looks like a convenience store from outside even with he cheesy little blue ‘OPEN” sign on the window. Sad that we are getting so many EAST LAish stores opening in a once bustling neighborhood. I give it <9months

Thank you for your observation! I was going to give it eight months lol it looks tacky with that homemade sign that’s hanging out lopsided outside the bright lighting at night. None of these middle age. Queens are gonna sit in that lighting.!!!
has anyone out there? Tried them to see how much the pricing is because the last convenient store was very expensive…
