Rainbow Family Day Picnic Returns to West Hollywood Sat, June 15

The WeHo Pride celebration continues for Pride Month with the 3rd annual Rainbow Family Day Picnic, produced by the L-Project Los Angeles and co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood. The event is taking place on Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 11am-3pm, at WeHo Park, at 647 North San Vicente Boulevard. The multicultural and all inclusive event is free, so bring the kids, pets and your picnic blankets and baskets.

The Rainbow Family Day Picnic was born out the idea that it would be an extension to L Project’s Women’s Freedom Festival in 2022. The event would be part of the WEHo Pride celebration, focusing on family. Producers Chris Baldwin and Madonna Cacciatore wanted to create a space that would be fun and inclusive to queer families with children and chosen families with pets, so it is dog friendly.

The Third Annual Rainbow Family Day Picnic will offer something for everyone and will include various activities like music, art, dance, food, and vendors.

The event this Saturday is important now more than ever to celebrate families, both biological and chosen. “We really need to highlight that our families are valid, our chosen families are valid and we need this more than ever,” said community leader and member of the L Project team, Jackie Steele. “We’re leaning into community in these fun kind of ways that are celebratory, and maybe a little bit more relaxed than a pride weekend. We invite everyone to come out.”

Last year, the event offered freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs on a first-come-first-serve basis (they even had veggie options). A DJ kept the music playing and some vendors took advantage of the opportunity to promote their small businesses. Families brought blankets and chairs and enjoyed the day while children played on the lawn. There were also plenty of sunbathers who seemed to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

You think self-hating homo Alex Balekian will be there? I can’t WAIT to see that far-right anti-trans fool lose in November. It’s going to be delicious
