New signage has gone up at the John Reed Fitness West Hollywood location announcing that the new gym is finally opening at 8612 Santa Monica Boulevard, on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Westbourne Drive in West Hollywood’s LGBT Rainbow District. “We promise we are worth the wait,” reads one sign. “John Reed Coming October. Presale Now Open.”
According to new members, a special VIP rate starts at $130 a month and will likely go up after the gym opens. An opening date has not been officially announced yet, but new members have been informed that membership dues will not be billed until the gym officially opens, which won’t be until October 25, 2023. The welcome note also reveals that the hot tub and pool area will not be available until the summer of 2024, which makes sense to anyone who has looked through the cracks of the gate leading to the pool, which shows it still needs some major repairs.

“We’re so excited to finally welcome you to JOHN REED West Hollywood, officially opening this October. As a presale member, you’re locked into our special VIP rate of $130/month. This also includes access to our lounge pool and hot tub opening next summer. For now, just sit back, relax, and stay tuned for our official opening date and details on our Grand Opening events. Your monthly dues won’t be billed until October 25, and then you’ll be billed monthly on the 25th.”

The video gives us a small snippets of the installation of their signage which went up on August 29, announcing the arrival of the new gym. We also get tiny glimpses of the interior upstairs with a view of what used to be the upstairs main workout floor as well as some of the mural artwork that is going up on the walls.

The West Hollywood location had their brand new top of the line workout equipment delivered earlier this month. A most recent peek inside shows a glimpse at some of the progress in the main lobby area. We can see a grand staircase leading to the upstairs workout floor.

Potential members enjoyed free club access to experience the space, along with special programming that included live DJs, classes, and activities throughout the weekend, such as Cupping Therapy by Myodetox and a piercing station. Hopefully that will be the case at the West Hollywood location.
The WeHo 24-Hour Fitness gym officially closed on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at exactly 9:00 p.m.

And I’ll guess a few people myself included are willing to wait it out until Gold’s at The Beverly Center opens. I went to John Reed in Santa Monica and I’ve worked at every gym in the city essentially and by far and away there were the laziest group of employees I’ve ever encountered in over 30 years of going to and working at gyms so I hope We Ho doesn’t follow suit.
I think Gold’s is letting JRF open first. The parent company for JRF also owns the Gold’s brand and they probably put pressure on Golds SoCal to wait a few months after they open so they aren’t directly competing for their opening at the same time. I think Gold’s will probably open January/February. They are about a year behind schedule which is par for the course for Gold’s SoCal.
Looks beautiful inside. I hope it will be opening up into a more exciting & inviting look & feel from the outside street environment also. Right now it’s just a big & lifeless 2-block-long black box that adds no punch or pzazz to the neighborhood. Even their subtly colored exterior siding tiles read black from the street.
