PowerZone West Hollywood has moved after being at 8576 Santa Monica Boulevard for roughly 30 years. The sports nutrition retail store known for its array of health supplements, protein bars and sports drinks is now next door inside the Capitol Drugs Pharmacy, located at 8578 Santa Monica Boulevard. The move is an effort to stay in business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Capitol Drugs has always been interconnected with PowerZone, so not too much is changing. The good news is that the consolidation allows PowerZone employees to keep their jobs and the business will continue to offer leading products in health and sports supplements and stay open as other sports nutrition stores like the GNC, located across the street, and N101 Nutrition down the street have both gone out of business in the area.
Capitol Drugs now offers a holistic vitamin section to the right, the pharmacy to the far back and now a PowerZone health nutrition section to the left—all in one location.
The only noticeable difference is that PowerZone will no longer offer a sports bar and will discontinue their services of protein shakes, juices and other health drinks—“The gyms continue to be closed during COVID,” an employee told WEHO TIMES. “We don’t know when they’re going to open. There is no foot traffic for protein shakes at the time, so making the move makes sense. We will continue to offer everything we have always offered. Our shelves are fully stocked and we will continue to exist. We have not closed. Just moved right next door.”
The PowerZone area has been emptied out. A repair man was building a wall to separate the old space from Capitol Drugs today. It is not yet known what will open to the newly empty space. According to an employee there is a kitchen in the back and that at one point there used to be a cafe that served lunch items.
PowerZone was established in 1991. It moved out of its original location this past Friday, February 22, 2021.
