Portion of Fantom Flower at Former Flaming Saddles Space is Up For Lease

A portion of the future of home of Fantom Flower cannabis lounge at 8811 Santa Monica Boulevard was listed for lease earlier this week on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 by Jay Luchs real estate.

A sign announcing the space is available is up on the building of the former home of the historic Larrabee Sound Studios and most recently Flaming Saddles. The 3,500 sq. ft building is currently available for lease at an undisclosed rate.

According to the listing this space is being presented as a possible retail space or restaurant.

    Highlights include:

    • Located on the Corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Larrabee Street
      Formerly Flaming Saddles
    • Upstairs Will Be a Future Cannabis Lounge (Approximately 130 Seats), Allowing for a Partnership Opportunity to Serve the Clientele
    • Permitted to Serve: Liquor Cup Until 2 Am, Food Until 4 a.m.
    • Patio Space Available Along Santa Monica Boulevard

The West Hollywood Business License Commission voted unanimously to grant Where Eagles Fly, LLC a Cannabis Business License for a Consumption Area (Edibles), at the former home of the now shuttered Flaming Saddles space in September of 2021.

Fantom Flower co-founded by actress Patricia Arquette will have onsite consumption areas for the consumption of cannabis by smoking, vaping, and ingesting of edible products, located on the second floor of a historic commercial building. The interior lounge area will be divided into two separate areas, a 1,028 sf edible/ingestion only area (non-smoking) and a 936 sf smoking area. The August 2020 code amendments authorize edible ingestion consumption areas to have a smoking area as long as the smoking area is not more than 50% of the premises or 1,500 square feet, whichever is smaller. Additionally, the edible/ingestion only area (non-smoking area) must be of equal size or larger than the smoking area.

There will be two entry points into the business one from the exterior of the building via a staircase and one from the first floor of the building via an interior staircase. The applicant also plans to operate a separate restaurant on the first floor of the building and the interior staircase will allow access from the restaurant to the consumption area.

The space was said to open in July, 2022, but construction stopped for several months, until earlier this month when the building was boarded up, and it appears construction has begun again. According to photo provided by WEHO TIMES reader Casey Coates on April 7, the interior renovations still have a long way to go.

This place should just be made into a regular restaurant upstairs and a dance floor downstairs and that’s it. No pot marijuana any of this junk.

We just need more ‘restaurants’ imo. Bring some from the desert like Lulus

Okay… So let’s unnecessarily render the entire cannabis consumption lounge handicap inaccessible. It’s a historic building, but this type of differentiation of services smacks in the face of any effort to meet the “equal enjoyment” of facilities obligation under the ADA. This change NEEDS to come before planning.

Ridiculous. Sounds like they are trying to offset part of their lease overhead. How is this not subletting?

This sort of lease or sublease seems unworkable. I would assume it was shopped around privately and there were no takers.
