    The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of West Hollywood, hosted their annual State of the City event on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the 1 Hotel on The Sunset Strip. This theme “Putting Progress Back in Progressive”, featured key community leaders and distinguished speakers who highlighted the city’s achievements and outlined future initiatives.

    West Hollywood Mayor John Erickson delivered a update on the city alongside City Manager David Wilson, emphasizing the city’s commitment to innovation and sustainable growth. They were joined by David Wood, Chair of the West Hollywood Chamber, and Genevieve Morrill, WeHo Chamber President & CEO, who underscored the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving economic prosperity.

    Also in attendance were Council Members John Heilman, and Lauren Meister along with former West Hollywood council members Abbe Land and John D’Amico.

    The event featured a panel discussion on progressive economics moderated by Jonathan K. Wilson, Dubb Value Creation and Chair of the Social Justice Advisory Board for West Hollywood. The panelists included notable figures such as Fiona Ma, California State Treasurer; Stephen Cheung, President & CEO of LAEDC; Dr. Avanidhar Subrahmanyam, Professor of Finance at UCLA Anderson School of Management; and Jacob Shaw, Co-Owner of Beaches Baja, Beaches Tropicana, and SoCal Payroll Services. They engaged in a conversation about economic development strategies aimed at fostering inclusivity and sustainability within the community.

    In recognition of outstanding contributions to design excellence, Jorge Nariño Levin-Nariño Architects presented The Ed Levin Award for Design Excellence to Craig Berberian, Founder and Managing Partner of Empire Property Group. This prestigious award celebrates individuals who have significantly influenced the architectural landscape of West Hollywood.

    “I am sincerely honored” Berberian said about receiving the Ed Levin Award for Design Excellence, and went on to add, “This prestigious recognition inspires me and Empire Property Group to continue pushing the boundaries of design, creativity, and innovation. Adopting a resident-first approach coupled with a sustainable lens has the power to transform living spaces and enhance the lives of our residents. This award reaffirms our commitment to creating impactful projects that reflect the vibrant spirit of West Hollywood. It also serves as a continuous motivator to not lose sight of serving our incredible community no matter the challenges and circumstances.” He went on to add, “The City of West Hollywood is unlike any other. Thanks to the strong leadership of our Mayor, the City Council, and the City Manager, the city continues to be a highly desirable place to live, work and play. In a mere 1.9 square miles, it encapsulates rich artistic culture, bustling entertainment, a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene, and a tight-knit residential community. It embodies how diversity and inclusion add colorful vibrance to the place businesses and individuals are lucky to call home.”

    The event also featured a heartfelt farewell to Deborah Kallick, Vice President of Government & Industry Relations for Cedars Sinai Medical Center, who served as a dedicated Chamber Board Member for 22 years.

    The State of the City 2024 event not only celebrated two amazing individuals who exemplify great leadership, it also highlighted West Hollywood’s achievements and set a vision for the future, emphasizing progressive values and collective action towards a vibrant and inclusive community.
