The Phoenix – a sober activity community that provides free, active, and engaging programming, gave us some sober VIBEZ to ring-in 2023 with a free a drug and alcohol free dance party in partnership with the City of West Hollywood. “VIBEZ: A Sober New Year Celebration” took place in Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, regardless of the pouring rain on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Hundreds registered to attend the event.
VIBEZ replaced the annual #BOOM! drug and alcohol free party that was co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood in partnership with the Global Institute for Public Strategies. #BOOM! launched in 2014. It took place in the West Hollywood Auditorium before the building was demolished. It went virtual during COVID last year. The Institute for Public Strategies decided not to move forward with hosting #BOOM! in 2022, so the City allocated $15,000 in funding to support the sober VIBEZ event.

The result of that partnership was a fun and safe space for the sober West Hollywood community to ring in the New Year in a city that offers plenty of boozy events and parties on New Year’s Eve. The theme of this year’s VIBEZ event was “Astrological Wellness”. Attendees enjoyed drag entertainment hosted by Pickle, live performances, dancing and there were plenty of NYE swag items to wear along with a photo booth where a photographer captured the moment.

Other activities included tarot and palm readings, psychics, star charting.
The event also offered a free meal from Chipotle Mexican restaurant. Pizza was also an option along with some refreshments.

The Phoenix is a sober activity community that provides free, active and engaging programming – such as rock climbing, CrossFit, yoga, dance classes, and social events
– to anyone in recovery from a substance use disorder or who chooses to live a sober
lifestyle. Phoenix is not a replacement for treatment, but offers a welcoming, safe and
supportive community to recover and heal, free to anyone with at least 48 hours of
continuous sobriety.
