National Ice Cream Day is a day dedicated to indulging in and appreciating the wonders of ice cream. The holiday was officially designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, who declared that the third Sunday of July would be recognized as a day to celebrate the joys of this frozen dessert. However, ice cream itself has a much longer history, dating back centuries. Its origins can be traced to ancient China, Persia (modern-day Iran), and India, where early versions of frozen desserts were made by combining milk or cream with ice and various flavorings.
