PHOTOS: Circus of Books Hosts Red Hot X Book Launch Celebrating Ginger Men

Ginger men took over Circus of Books West Hollywood this past Friday to celebrate the launch of Red Hot X, a new photo art book celebrating red headed males, by photographer Thomas Knights. The event was a book signing and a launch party celebrating its debut in North America, at 8861 Santa Monica Blvd. Proceeds from that night are going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The launch party was well attended. Fans lined up to purchase Red Hot underwear, calendars, magazines and the Red Hot X photo book, which was signed by the photographer who was joined by Brock Bowers, one of the ginger male models featured in the book.

Bowers said he was visiting WeHo for the first time from Oklahoma City, where he’s from. “It’s absolutely mindblowing seeing myself on the cover of a magazine and inside a photobook,” Bowers told WEHO TIMES. “I’ve always been an outsider for being a ginger, so it’s nice to see that we’re becoming more mainstream. The reactions have been great. Everybody has been an absolute joy.”

Photographer Thomas Knights took a break from his meet and greet to chat with us about Red Hot X, the first nude photo book that exclusively features and celebrates male redheads.

Is this your first time in West Hollywood?

Actually…no. My little brother lives here, so I come to West Hollywood whenever I come to the West Coast.

Is this your first launch in WeHo?

We launched the underwear here in 2018, so it’s really good to be back again. I mean, that’s five years later. We’re here for our 10-year anniversary.

You seem to have a following and a good turnout tonight.

It’s been incredible. This book has really taken off. It is our first-ever nude male art book. In the 10 years that we’ve been doing Red Hot, we’ve done nude male calendars, but we’ve never done a nude male art book. It’s what people really want from us. The reception has been incredible. The launches we’ve done have been incredible in London and here in LA.

Will you be doing more of this type of work in the future?

I’m really excited for the future. I think we’ll do more of this sort of content. We’ll do another book sooner. The last one was seven years ago. We’ll do another one much sooner than that.

Do you focus on gingers because you’re a ginger?

Yes (laughs)! Growing up ginger in the UK, there’s a lot of negative connotations. You get bullied for being ginger in the UK. I think also here at school in America, ginger boys have a hard time as well. So that’s where it came home.

    What’s your main goal here?

We’re trying to present positive role models for ginger guys. There’s never been anything like it before. We’re like this unique ginger world and if you’re into ginger guys, we are the go-to place at Red Hot 100. We’re all about celebrating uniqueness, owning who you are, and being comfortable in your own skin.

How hard was it to complete this book?

Oh my gosh, it was a lot of work. There’s a lot more photos. A calendar has 12 images and 12 models, where as a book has like 144 pages. There’s a lot more that goes into it, and this year we really pushed ourselves to create characters, storylines, different acts, and glamorous locations, so it really is like the ultimate ginger fantasyland. We call it gingerville.

Is it hard to find ginger models?

They find us. That’s the easy part. The hard part is to find models who also want to pose nude. We have loads of models around the world that are really up for being in Red Hot, but being in a nude book is another thing. So, if there are any readers out there who feel like they want to be a part of it, reach out. DM us. We are always on the hunt for new models.

Circling back to West Hollywood, what do you like most about the city?

I love the energy. There is a really big gay scene here that seems to be thriving. In the UK, many of the gay streets are now very straight. A lot of the gay bars and clubs have closed over the years and it is spread out and has become more sporadic. Here, it feels like there’s a real energy in WeHo that still exists and and that’s really great for a community to have a place to go and to feel safe, and feel like you you are part of. Also it’s about one degree in the UK. It’s gray and miserable, and here, it’s really nice. I love, love the blue sky, the palm trees. I would love to live here.
