OUTloud Sports Dodgeball Tournament in Weho Concludes with Two Winning Teams

The City of West Hollywood hosted the OutLoud Sports Dodgeball Tournament as part of a two-day sports festival over Labor Day Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, which includes multiple sports at locations throughout Southern California. Team “These Gays, They’re Trying To Murder Me” won the Advanced Division, and team “Murder Kittens” won the Recreational Division. Both champion teams killed it (literally) and were given specialty trophies and medals.

The OutLoud Dodgeball Tournament took place at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center located at 8750 El Tovar Place, adjacent to the West Hollywood Library.

Day one of the Dodgeball Tournament, on September 2, 2023, consisted of seven 12-minute matches to determine seeding.

Day two, on September 3, 2023, was a single-elimination tournament concluding with the Championship Match. Teams consisted of a maximum of 13 players with 10 players playing on the court per team.

“My team, ‘These Gays, They’re Trying To Murder Me’ won 1st place in the Advanced Division of dodgeball for Outloud Sports Tournament,” said team member Daniel Berilla (The score was 2 to 1 against team ‘inevitable’). “It’s the 1st queer multi sport tournament to be in LA, ever. We had many sponsors. There were many sports. Pickleball, volleyball, kickball and dodgeball. Different divisions. All inclusive no matter who you are, what you identify as. A Guy named Will Hackner is the CEO and lives in Weho and the multi-sport queer league has grown ten folds since its inception.”

All the teams celebrated the conclusion of the tournament with drinks at Micky’s WeHo, Gym Bar and Hi Tops. Some players enjoyed ice cream from the Cherlatto truck that was stationed in front of Micky’s for their Ice Cream Sunday event.

The Husband and I met the Murder Kitties while they were fueling up at Norm’s before the big game. So thrilled to see they won!
