New Smoke and Mart Opens in West Hollywood Rainbow District

Smoke and Mart is now open at the former Serenity Nail Salon space located at 8929 Santa Monica Blvd, next to Hi Tops WeHo restaurant and bar. The new convenience store opened this past Sunday, May 5, 2024.

According to an employee, the new smoke shop specializes in tobacco products, vape pens, glass pipes, and other convenience store items, like snacks and drinks—not to mention poppers and sex toys. It is one of four locations run by the same owners. The new store is affiliated with “Smoke for Less,” located at 8205 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood’s eastside area, next door to Yogurtland and across the street from Circus of Books East.

The space was rumored to become part of Hi Tops WeHo. We received reports that the restaurant/bar was expanding, but that was because the bar was using the space as storage while the landlord found a tenant. Community members saw Hi Tops tables and chairs being moved next door and thought the venue was growing.

The reception to the new business has been mixed via the comments left on the @wehotimes Instagram account after we announced they were new to the neighborhood.

“Thank God, they have video head cleaner,” wrote K Saint G. “My VCR has been acting up something fierce 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫.”

“Won’t last,” wrote Anthony Vulin. “Not the right biz for this area.”

“It’s great if it’s a smoke shop, but does it also have to provide torches and glass cylinders so that it can bring in and encourage Meth use in the neighborhood?” asked Gabriel Panduro. “Let’s address the big pink elephant in the room!”

“I see poppers and dildos,” wrote @wehopress. “How is this place not tailor-made for Boystown?”

“Another pookie shop, hooray!” wrote Pooky Bear.

Smoke and Mart opened within months after the lease was signed, according to a source.

Their hours of operation are Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m..

SM blvd is a new Hollywood Blvd in the making. Between the trash and filth. The ONLY people I’ve been seeing go in and out of this store are transients.

That’s what we need, another head shop. Another positive addition to Boystown.

Between this and the psychic that opened up around the corner from this place, the city seems to be heading in the right direction (insert eye roll here). It’s a race to the bottom. On the bright side (or is it?) at least it’s not an empty store front.
