New Podcast Explores Heartbreak in West Hollywood – An American Scandoval

One of the most significant West Hollywood stories of 2023 was the highly publicized breakup of Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix after Madix discovered his infidelity with co-star Raquel Leviss on the reality TV show Vanderpump Rules, which is mainly set in WeHo. A new podcast called “The Ringer Reality Podcast,” hosted by Jodi Walker, was released on Tuesday, breaking down the infamous affair now known as Scandoval.

The first episode, titled “Heartbreak in West Hollywood – An American Scandoval,” is described as follows:

“Where were you when Scandoval dropped? To find out why one cheating scandal dominated the zeitgeist in 2023, we have to go back in time. Ten years ago, Scheana Shay walked out of ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ and into the first-ever episode of ‘Vanderpump Rules,’ creating an unholy lineage of mistresses that spans all the way to the now-infamous March 3, 2023, TMZ headline: ‘TOM SANDOVAL & ARIANA MADIX CALL IT QUITS … Allegations He Cheated With Co-star Raquel Leviss.’ Meet the Cool Girl Ariana Madix and the endearing but toxic Tom Sandoval—’Vanderpump’s most reliable couple. Until they weren’t.”

As Season 10 of the Bravo reality series unfolded, it became apparent that some of the show’s stars likely knew or suspected that Tom Sandoval and Raquel Leviss, central figures in the scandal, were engaged in an illicit relationship. The season revealed the lengths to which Ariana Madix, the true victim of the affair, went to defend her then-boyfriend and best friend against accusations of betrayal. TMZ reported on March 3, 2023, that Madix and Sandoval had broken up after she discovered the affair. Since then, details about the seven-month-long liaison between Sandoval and Leviss have emerged. The updated finale, which aired on May 17, consisted entirely of footage shot after the scandal broke.

The scandal, dubbed “Scandoval,” involves Sandoval cheating on his girlfriend of nine years, Ariana Madix, with Raquel Leviss, one of Madix’s best friends. Sandoval, a series regular on Vanderpump Rules since 2013, faces accusations of infidelity, prompting a significant impact on the show’s narrative. The fallout from “Scandoval” quickly became a major reality TV scandal, dominating social media discussions with the hashtag #Scandoval trending.

Season 10 initially focused on other cast members’ divorces and controversies, but “Scandoval” shifted the tone and became the focal point of the season. Viewers scrutinized interactions between Sandoval and Leviss, revealing their apparent affair happening under the castmates’ noses.

The drama leading up to “Scandoval” involved Leviss making a play for Tom Schwartz, despite a post-divorce pact within the friend group. However, post-revelation, Leviss’s flirtation with Schwartz is seen as a cover-up for her actual affair with Sandoval. Schwartz claims to have known about a one-night stand between Sandoval and Leviss in August 2022 but was unaware of the full-blown affair until January of the following year.

In-show hints about “Scandoval” began in the 11th episode when Ally Lewber, James Kennedy’s girlfriend, saw Sandoval and Leviss together late at night, prompting suspicions. Lisa Vanderpump, the show’s matriarch, also appeared to be getting wise to the dynamic between Sandoval and Leviss. Despite rumors and attempts by other cast members to address the issue, Madix remained insistent that Sandoval and Leviss were loyal to her.

The penultimate episode of the season featured a difficult conversation between Madix and Leviss about the details of Madix and Sandoval’s sex life. The scandal has significantly shaped the narrative of Season 10, making it one of the most talked-about reality TV controversies.

Really? This a story? Two people from a scripted “reality” show, who want fame and attention and knew exactly what they were doing? I know it’s a slow news week, but come on.
