The neighborhood on North Harper and Sweetzer avenue is celebrating 40 years of National Night Out in West Hollywood with a block party on Tuesday, August 1st, from 5pm – 8pm. North Harper Avenue will be blocked off between Santa Monica Boulevard and Norton Avenue.
The event will offer free food, dessert, music and a chance to meet and greet neighbors, city council members, and members from LA County Fire and West Hollywood Sheriffs. There will be raffle prizes, a street taco stand, pizza sponsored by Prince Street Pizza, as well as a Healthy Spot Doggie Snack Station, so bring your fur babies.
This year’s N Harper Sweetzer National Night Out Block Party is dedicated to Esther Baum and Jeff McKay who passed in 2023.
Esther Baum was the block captain for that neighborhood for several years. She lead the National Night Out events. New Block Captain Tanya Sackler will be making Esther’s deviled eggs. She was given the recipe, so the tradition will continue.
Jeff Mckay was also a huge contributor to the annual party and will also be remembered after his passing.
This year marks the 40th Annual National Night Out, which began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, law enforcement, community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie – and to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized against crime.
