    Myra ‘Mikie’ Friedman and Steve Martin to be Honored by Older Adults Advisory Board

    The West Hollywood Older Adults Advisory Board will host the 2024 Older Adult Awards on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, starting at 2 p.m., at the West Hollywood City Council Chamber, 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. This year’s honorees will be Myra “Mikie” Friedman and Steve Martin. The ceremony will be streamed live for virtual access via www.youtube.com/wehotv (for remote viewing).

    According to the Older Adults Advisory Board, Mikie Friedman and Steve Martin have dedicated many years to advocating for the well-being of our older adults. Their tireless work has profoundly impacted the West Hollywood community, setting a high standard for civic involvement. The Older Adults Advisory Board is proud to recognize their efforts with this special celebration. Their dedication has not only improved the lives of many but also inspired others to engage and contribute.

    The Older Adults Advisory Board was created on July 6, 1987 and is comprised of five (5) members appointed by individual Councilmembers and four (4) members appointed by the Council as a whole (at-large). Each member of the Board shall serve a two-year term commencing March 1st following a general municipal election. The City Council shall endeavor to appoint members who represent the specific Advisory Board focus as well experts in the field. Members shall be reflective of the demographic and geographic diversity of the City. Members should live, work, or have a strong connection to the City. City Council shall have the right to annually appoint a youth (15-18) representative to serve as an ex-officio member of an Advisory Board. If a member of an Advisory Board is absent for any reason for more than three regular meetings in any 12-month period, the office of such member shall be vacated upon the discretion of the City Council.

    The Older Adults Advisory Board addresses matters relating to the planning, development and coordination of services for older residents and makes recommendations to Council relative to the adoption of programs, policies or ordinances of benefit to those constituencies. The Board acts as an advocate and provides linkage between residents, organizations, City Council, City officials, and the general community.
