My 12 Step Store Hosts Sink a Twink Fundraiser for WeHo Pride

Annual Sober Oasis event continues at My 12 Step Store. This year the recovery gift and book store located at 8730 Santa Monica Boulevard, celebrated the city’s first WeHo Pride weekend by hosting a wet and wildly hilarious Dunk a Hunk / Sink a Twink dunk tank fundraising event on Sunday June 27th.

Jacob R was dunk master. Three balls for the sweet price of 5 bucks gave participants three chances to sink a twink into a dunk tank, with proceeds going towards supporting and bringing awareness to the Van Ness Recovery House (VNRH).

“We continue to stand strong to survive the retail challenges and remain committed to serve the recovery community,” said Director of Outreach for My 12 Step store and VNRH 50th Anniversay co-chair, RJ Holguin. “We have always provided a sober oasis during pride and many other city celebrations. We want to thank everyone who stopped by and for all the support.”

The Dunk a Hunk / Sink a Twink event raised $350.00. My 12 Step Store will match that amount 10 times with a total donation of $3,500.00, in recognition of Holguin’s 35-year sober anniversary.

The VNRH will be celebrating 50 years of services next year beginning in May with special events and fundraising opportunities all year long. The recovery house was one of the first to welcome persons with HIV and AIDS into residential addiction recovery treatment. VNRH has served thousands of individuals struggling with substance related disorders. VNRH provides client-centered, trauma-informed, recovery-orientated services, offered by a committed, caring, and qualified staff of licensed, certified, and registered professionals. VNRH does not discriminate because of race, color, sex, age, national origin, handicap, sexual orientation or HIV status. Although VNRH largely targets the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and the transgender community, heterosexual clients are welcome and have proven success in the program.
