A man accused of sexual assaulting a woman in Los Angeles after he picked her up in West Hollywood has been arrested, according to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD). The driver has been identified as Fernando Macias Morales, a 34-year-old Los Angeles resident. Morales was arrested on Friday April 5, 2024 in San Fernando Valley.

According to SMPD officials, on Sept. 7, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Pennsylvania Ave following a report of a sexual assault. A female individual called authorities alleging that she was sexually assaulted by a Lyft driver after being picked up from a West Hollywood restaurant and during her journey home.

Identified as a resident of Santa Monica, the victim reportedly fell asleep during the ride and awoke to unwarranted physical contact. Subsequently, the suspect purportedly offered to escort her to her residence, a gesture which she declined. Upon reaching her destination, she realized that several hours had elapsed since the commencement of her journey.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Morales with felony counts of kidnapping to commit a sexual act (California Penal Code 209(b)(1)), sexual penetration of a person intoxicated or under sedation (California Penal Code 289(e)), Oral copulation of a person intoxicated person or under sedation (California Penal Code 287(i)).

His bail is set at $500,000.

Such an awful thing to happen in West Hollywood which should be a safe space for everyone, especially Women and LGBTQ+. This driver should banned for life from ever working as a driver and, even his driver’s license should be suspended for life. That will show him when he gets out of jail, never able to work in a position of trust again, only able to work jobs open to convicted felons and, he’ll be a registered sex offender who will have serious problems (some quite violent) in jail/prison that will follow him on the outside when released.
