Local singer, songwriter and LGBT+ artist Leopold Nunan just released his new single titled “Quem é teu baby?/ Who is your baby?” featuring Sonia Santos and Ana Gazzola. “Quem é teu baby?” is the first single from his upcoming album “Leo from Rio”.  The album pays tribute to Leopold’s father, Plastic Surgeon and Professor Virmar Ribeiro Soares, who passed away nearly a decade ago.

Leopold states: “The album has a sound that represents my roots with a mix of afro, native sound with pop rock influences. It’s highly percussive and uplifting. It’s Global Music and I am ready to take on the World,”

Artist Leopold Nunan is well established in the Los Angeles music industry.  He is known for his vibrant wardrobe, his over-the-top personality and ability to get the crowd dancing. The West Hollywood local has packed numerous venues across the city alongside local, regional and legendary talent including Lady Miss Kier of Deee Lite, Chaka Khan and Sheila E.

In addition to his music career, he has organized and thrown large scale events and shows including Beaches official Pop-Up Party for WeHo Pride, and the Proud Stage at the Los Angeles County Fair. He always pulls from a vastly diverse talent pool. The acts that he books range from live music, DJs, Dancers, Drag Queens, and Performance Artists.  Using such diverse artists with a wide range of talents makes Leopold’s shows unique and fun with a Carnaval style atmosphere that you will not want to miss.  In a recent statement he said: “I live in LA and I feel embraced by the community and I belong to many here. In the video I featured my stage performance artist family, acrobatic capoeira and Flamenco dancers, I called all my local friends to jump in and help me out with the video. I feel it is a responsibility to represent Brazil in the United States, filling a gap and following the legacy of Ana and Sonia”.

Sonia Santos was immensely successful in Brazil, in the 70s, with the song “Como”, by Raul Seixas and Paulo Coelho, which was on the soundtrack of the soap opera “O Rebu” (1975), by Rede Globo, “Speed”, by Jorge Ben (today Benjor) who won a musical at Fantástico (1979). She recorded her first two albums for Som Livre, in 1975 and 1977, produced by Guto Graça Mello. In her solo career Sonia became famous in the United States throughout the 80s and 90’s. Then in 1999 she started recording with her new wife and singer Ana Gazzola as a duet.

Ana Gazzola was born in Caxias do Sul (Brazil) and is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She started singing and playing guitar at age of 5.  Since 1997, she has been a partner of Sonia Santos, with whom she shares life. They created their own record lable Yellow Green music and formed the band called Brasil Brazil. Ana was awarded by the International Brazilian Press for the album “UrbAna” (2017) for the show (2004/06)

The album Leo from Rio was funded by a Grant that was awarded to Leopold from The Music Forward Foundation and CITI.  He was one of ten LGBTQIA+ immigrant and POC artists awarded the Grant from over 250,000 proposals.  A portion of the Grant was used to create the music video for “Quem é teu baby”.

The Director of the music video Lucas Paz states: “This video is an ode to love in all forms of diversity, minorities, the black community, the LGBTQIA+ community, the differently capable, animal and plant lovers; here playing and loving is not forbidden.”
