    Landmark Theatres Sunset is Celebrating Pride with “RETRO PREPLAY PRIDE SERIES”

    Landmark Theatres Sunset at 8000 Sunset Boulevard will be running a weeklong “RETRO PREPLAY PRIDE SERIES” that highlight diverse LGBTQ+ stories and voices.  The series of 7 LGBTQ+ films will be including “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”,  “Tangerine”  “Milk”, “But I’m a Cheerleader” “Shiva Baby” and “Brokeback Mountain”.
    The special movie event each night honors the history, struggles, and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community through the powerful medium of cinema.
    “At Landmark Theatres Sunset, we are committed to celebrating the rich tapestry of stories within the LGBTQ+ community,” said Mark Mulcahy, the Head of Brand and Marketing at Landmark Theatres Sunset. “We believe in the power of film to educate, inspire, and bring people together, and we are honored to present these incredible works to our audience during Pride Month.”
    Friday, June 14 – BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER (1999)
    A satirical comedy about a teenager sent to a conversion therapy camp who soon embraces her sexual orientation. Directed by Jamie Babbit and starring Natasha Lyonne and Clea DuVall, this film has become a cult classic.
    Saturday, June 15 – MILK (2008)
    This biographical film chronicles the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California. Directed by Gus Van Sant and featuring Sean Penn in an Oscar-winning performance, MILK is a stirring tribute to a pioneering activist.
    Sunday, June 16 – MOONLIGHT (2016)
    An Academy Award-winning drama that follows the life of a young black man grappling with his identity and sexuality while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. Directed by Barry Jenkins, MOONLIGHT is a poignant and visually stunning exploration of self-discovery.
    Monday, June 17 – HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (2001)
    John Cameron Mitchell directs and stars in this rock musical about a transgender punk rock singer from East Berlin. This film is a heartfelt and energetic tale of love, identity, and the search for self.
    Tuesday, June 18 – TANGERINE (2015)
    Shot entirely on an iPhone, this revolutionary film follows a transgender sex worker who discovers her boyfriend and pimp has been cheating on her. Directed by Sean Baker, TANGERINE is known for its raw energy and groundbreaking representation.
    Wednesday, June 19 –SHIVA BABY (2020)
    Directed by Emma Seligman, SHIVA BABY is a dark comedy about a young bisexual woman who faces various pressures during a Jewish funeral service. This film has been praised for its sharp wit and authentic portrayal of queer identity.
    Thursday, June 20 – BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2005)
    Ang Lee’s critically acclaimed romantic drama tells the story of a complex, decades-long relationship between two cowboys in the American West. Featuring powerful performances by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is a landmark in LGBTQ+ cinema.
    Landmark Theatres, the leader in independent cinema exhibition, is excited to welcome moviegoers to its newly renovated Landmark Theatres Sunset. The 5 new auditoriums feature upgraded seating along with Dolby Atmos, 4K and 70mm capabilities in select auditoriums. Moviegoers will have the opportunity to experience a full bar with mixologist inspired cocktails and a robust food and beverage offering.
