It appears LA Pride 2021 is keeping it virtual. Christopher Street West Association Inc (CSW), the 501(c)3 nonprofit that produces the event, announced three main online events. There will be a free streaming concert presented by TikTok, the Thrive with Pride Celebration one-hour special on ABC7, and LA Pride Makes a Difference, a new, month-long calendar of events focused on volunteering and community service around Los Angeles.
Thrive with Pride was chosen for this year’s theme to highlight health and wellness as we slowly emerge from the pandemic. It will underscore the belief that thriving is an act of social justice within the LGBTQ+ community, especially for underserved or overlooked members of the LGBTQ+ community. The belief that when we live with a sense of belonging, confidence, security, and self-worth, we’re not just surviving, we’re thriving!
“To thrive means to flourish and progress despite the circumstances. Pride this year is a moment for you to stop and breathe,” said Sharon-Franklin Brown, CSW Board of Directors President. “It’s a moment to remember you’re not just surviving one of the hardest years in recent memory, but growing into your truth. If we as a community can come together, even for a moment, to realize we’ve broken down some barriers put on us, it’ll strengthen our resolve to continue tearing more down for those to come after us.”
Details on the three main events this year are as follows:
THURSDAY, JUNE 10
Charli XCX Concert Streamed Exclusively on TikTok
Hyper-pop diva, Charli XCX, will headline the Thrive with Pride Concert, live streamed exclusively on TikTok from a LA location on Thursday night, June 10. Riding high on her critically acclaimed new album, How I’m Feeling Now, Charli will be joined by up-and-coming LGBTQ + performers from across genres.
SATURDAY, JUNE 12
“Thrive with Pride Celebration”
LA PRIDE is once again partnering with ABC 7 Los Angeles for a Pride broadcast. It is currently putting together the Thrive with Pride Celebration, a one-hour LA Pride showcase of the best of LGBTQ+ Los Angeles! Celebrity guests, messages from the community, special performances, and LA Pride 2021 Honorees are set for Saturday, June 12, 9:00pm-10:00pm PDT on ABC 7 Los Angeles, the most-watched station in Southern California.
New 30-Day Calendar of Donating, Volunteering and Service
The organization is also partnering with Big Sunday for the entire month of June to create Pride Makes a Difference, a 30-day calendar of local philanthropic events focused on volunteering, community service, and opportunities to help the LGBTQ+ community, and Los Angeles nonprofits.
In July 2020, CSW accounted it was moving the LA Pride parade and festival out of the City of West Hollywood. The CSW Board cited construction at West Hollywood Park and the changing demographics of the Greater Los Angeles Area among the reasons LA Pride will no longer take place in West Hollywood.
More LA Pride events will be announced.
