Stay at home. The City of West Hollywood will continue to follow LA County Department of Public Health’s Safer at Home Order, which has been extended and will remain in effect until May 15, 2020.
The City is urging community members to stay put and continue to follow the Safer at Home Order in the hopes of stopping the spread of COVID-19 in the region. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health indicates that physical distancing among people in LA County is working and that it will continue to be effective in flattening the curve of coronavirus transmission. Gov. Newsom has also indicated that stay-at-home orders in the state are “bending” the curve of the pandemic.
“Our community is embracing Safer at Home orders and is doing everything it can to flatten the curve,” said West Hollywood Mayor John D’Amico. “The revised order from LA County extends the stay-at-home timeline to mid May. Even though that seems like a long time – because I think it’s already April 97th – I want to encourage everyone in West Hollywood and say loud-and-clear: we can do this and we must stick with it. Humor and creativity will help: let’s all take a fashion challenge and ‘Cover That Face!’ with our fabulous homemade bandanas and scarves and we’ll each be doing our part to help protect ourselves and one another. Together we will defeat the coronavirus.”
The revised LA County Safer At Home Order creates new requirements regarding face coverings, which community members should adhere to:
- For individuals – the Order allows individuals to leave their homes to shop at Essential Businesses, including grocery stores and restaurants offering delivery, drive thru or carry out service, so long as all persons practice Social Distancing and wear a cloth face covering while visiting Essential Businesses; and
- For essential businesses – the Order now requires essential businesses to implement, no later than midnight on April 15, 2020, a social distancing protocol, which includes a requirement to provide all of their employees who require contact with other employees and/or the public with a cloth face covering to wear while performing duties that involve contact with others.

The City of West Hollywood has declared a local emergency in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and is advising community members to adhere to Los Angeles County Safer at Home and California State Stay at Home orders. The City urges everyone to stay in place, maintain your space, and cover your face. Leave home only for essential needs; always use social distancing of at least six feet; and follow guidelines to use cloth face coverings such as bandanas or scarves so that medical masks, which are in short supply, are prioritized for health professionals.
West Hollywood City Hall remains closed to the public and has suspended all in-person transactions. All public City buildings, playgrounds, and facilities are closed.
