National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is this February 7, 2019. The Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Downtown Los Angeles (LA CADA DTLA) is teaming up with AHF Pharmacies, Flux – AHF and Subway Little Tokyo for a KNOW YOUR STATUS event which aims to bring awareness to the importance of being tested and understanding what HIV is and the precautions that can be taken by becoming more knowledgeable.
Starting Thursday, February 7, on National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and every Thursday for the month of February, there will be a mobile unit at the LA CADA- DTLA site for people to get tested from 10am – 2pm. Those tested will have an opportunity to receive gift bags and a free lunch while supplies last. There will also be workshops on PrEP and HIV 101 in English and Spanish for LA CADA – DTLA SUD and Project 90 clients. This is a way for LA CADA, AHF Pharmacies, FLUX-AHF and Subway Little Tokyo to give back to the community and bring awareness.
Coordinated by the Strategic Leadership Council, National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is observed each year on February 7 to increase HIV education, testing, community involvement, and treatment among black communities.
This year’s NBHAAD theme, “Together for Love: Stop HIV Stigma”, highlights the messages of the Act Against AIDS, Let’s Stop HIV Together campaign. Let’s Stop HIV Together raises awareness that we all have a role to play in stopping HIV stigma.
