This is Jersey Mike’s 14th annual Day of Giving. A total of 2,500 Jersey Mike’s locations around the country are expected to give over $20 million to local charities. Since the Month of Giving began in 2011, the chain has raised more than $67 million, according to a company news release. Stores have also been collecting donations for their chosen charities for the entire month.
There are over 200 stores across southern and central California that will donate all of their sales on Wednesday to Cancer for College. Local locations include stores in Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Silver Lake.
About Cancer for College:
Cancer for College was founded in 1993 by three-time cancer survivor and double amputee Craig Pollard. Since inception, the charity has awarded over 1,600 need-based scholarships totaling more than $6 million in awards to high-achieving cancer survivors.
Cancer for College has been providing need based college scholarships. More recently, they added educational programming to help their scholarship recipients thrive through college and beyond. This has included professional mentor groups, educational field trips to hospitals, movie studios and even the Disneyland Resort for Leadership & Management Training. Cancer for College is also exploring alternative education opportunities for scholars too sick to return to a traditional college experience. They are also looking to help survivors in others ways including reducing medical debt.
The scholarship application period opens on November 1 and runs through January 31. Applications are scored with scholarship awards announced on and around July 1.
