In the Race to Succeed Schiff, She Maebe A. Girl, but She’s Definitely a Game-Changer

She was not the traditional candidate  to succeed Rep. Adam Schiff representing California’s 30th Congressional District, which includes West Hollywood, Silver Lake and parts of Northeast Los Angeles.

Schiff had become an institution in the district and in the House of Representatives where he enhanced his reputation by becoming Congress’ rabid, unrelenting prosecutor of former President Donald Trump before pivoting to run for the late Dianne Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat.

Fifteen candidates offered themselves as congressional successors to Schiff in the recent primary. Some raised unseemly amounts of money. Some campaigned with coveted endorsements from the Los Angeles Times, the influential mayor of Los Angeles, and powerful labor unions.

    She had none of these.

She didn’t win but, in a sense, the longshot candidate known on the primary ballot as G “Maebe” Pudlo scored an upset that raised eyebrows. She got more votes than former West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne, Los Angeles school board member Nick Melvoin, and actor Ben Savage. In fact, she received more votes than all those three combined.

That in itself is not just an upset. It is utterly shocking. You see, away from the ballot, G “Maebe” Pudlo is known as Maebe A. Girl. She is a drag queen and comedian who does satirical impressions of Melania Trump, Betsy DeVos, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders. And she whipped two elected local officials and a former television star.

Her strong fifth place finish apparently resonated with voters, bringing new legitimacy to her standing as treasurer and At-Large Representative for the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council in Los Angeles and her claim to being

“the first drag queen elected to public office in the United States.” Maebe A. Girl differentiated herself by championing unique policy stances that addressed the concerns of marginalized commu-nities: from housing affordability to LGBTQ+ rights as her platform most likely resonated with voters who felt underrepresented by mainstream candidates.

Her positive showing can also be attributed to her engagement efforts. She actively sought out input from residents and participated in grassroots events. Girl utilized platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok to connect with younger voters, showcasing her authenticity and engaging personality.

This approach set her apart from the more traditional campaigns of Shyne and Savage, attracting a demographic that is often overlooked in mainstream politics.

As a drag queen, Maebe A. Girl challenged traditional gender norms in politics. Her unapologetic embrace of her identity resonated with voters who were eager to see a more diverse, more authentic representation in government. By breaking down barriers, perhaps she has also inspired a new generation of leaders who may not have previously considered a career in the political world.

Maebe A. Girl’s unexpected success in the primary serves as a testament to the evolving landscape of politics and the increasing importance of authenticity, community engagement and breaking down societal norms.

Pudlo’s campaign was certainly interesting- demonstrating that anti-Zionist candidates are more viable than the establishment wants you to believe. The election of populist George Galloway to UK Parliament, running on a pro-Palestine & anti-medical mandate platform, is a hopeful sign of the future. Here in the US, politicians claiming the progressive mantel ought to take notice.

YES, you make a very valid argument, notice how pro-establishment zionist shill Ben Savage with a heavily financed campaign was only able to get a little over a third of the votes that Maebe A. Girl that got on a shoe string budget❓
