Hair Party WeHo Salon is Coming to Block Party WeHo

Larry Block, the owner of Block Party WeHo, announced that Hair Party WeHo is coming to the gayest store in the world at 8853 Santa Monica Blvd., in the heart of WeHo’s Boystown / LGBT Rainbow District. Block Party is being revamped to offer haircuts for a reasonable price and extended hours.

“The Drunken Barber, aka Nick Rose is coming to the Block Party,” Block posted on his Facebook timeline. “Nick closed down his space at the Salon Republic when the pandemic hit. Now it’s time to re-open! Welcome to the Hair Party WeHo!”

Larry Block tells WEHO TIMES that the original plan was to take over the empty space that used to be home to George Patrick Menswear at 805 Palm Avenue, around the corner from Yogurt Stop. He thought the space was perfect for Hair Party, however he decided to keep it closer to home and use the extra space he has a Block Party to add the service to his store.

“I realized I have all this space in the back of my store and I could use that extra space to put a barber’s chair,” he said. There is enough room for two chairs, but we’re only working with one for now. He was going to give me a haircut. He had his chair sitting in his garage. And that’s when I had the idea to have it at the store. I called the city to see if we’re allowed to do this and I was told we’re allowed. We have to get an accessory use. I decided to stick Hair Party in back of Block Party and it’s going to be a real fun thing.”

Block says he’s already submitted plans to the City to install a shampoo bowl. He’s getting the plumbing work done, he’s adding mirrors, lighting and he’s thinking of fun rainbow colored tiles to go with the Block Party theme, as part of the new flooring, if the landlord allows it

“I have a couple of employees that cut hair on the side and now they have a space to cut hair. It want it to be fun. I want it to be campy and zany. I’m thinking glam. You can do makeup and do drag. It can be a great space for Halloween. We want to offer your favorite gay cuts and we’re open late. We’re doubling down on the gay.”

Block says Hair Party WeHo is opening in a matter of weeks, if all goes according to plan. Stay tuned for more details.

Sounds good, Larry – why not? Especially since we lost our local SuperCuts.
