Gym Sportsbar WeHo celebrated 10 years last night. The gay bar had their grand opening on October 2, 2009. To celebrate their 10-year milestone, Gym Sportsbar had a customer appreciation night. The entire staff was on hand serving complementary drinks and free food that was donated by local restaurants like Kitchen 24, Weho Bistro and Gracias Madre. The bar also held a raffle fundraiser that benefited GLSEN Los Angeles, a group that advocates for laws and policies that improve the lives of LGBTQ students.
Last night was an especially packed house with crowds of people filling both ends of the bar. An estimate of over 500 people showed up throughout the evening to celebrated the diamond anniversary.

Gym Sportsbar WeHo, located at 8737 Santa Monica Blvd, in WeHo’s Boystown, has become a staple in the LGBTQ+ community these past ten years. It is known as the seasonal watering hole for local gay sports groups like gay Dodge Ball and the Varsity Gay League. The bar is also well known for their 2 for 1 happy hour from 4pm-9pm, Monday through Friday, which includes the 2nd drink Gym Bar chips (I’m sure you have a few laying around your homestead).
The bar is one of the best local bars on the Santa Monica Gay Strip. It resembles the TV series Cheers, where everybody knows your name. If feels like the staff behind the bar are your friends and it’s a nice place to strike up a conversation with someone new.

Gym Sportsbar also contributes with community outreach that supports local charities. They allow local organizations to host fundraising events at the bar, such as the AIDS Walk Los Angeles and the AIDS/Lifecycle. I have held a few fundraisers myself at the bar throughout the years for charities I support, like Childhelp and AbilityFirst.
The bar is known for Monday’s Ben & Jen’s Karaoke, Wednesday’s Wine-o-Rama Day, Saturday’s DJ FoxyLectro spinning some tunes, and Fantasy League—but don’t forget that this is first and foremost, a gay sports bar. The bar hosts the seasonal games that are projected on eight screens. Sports fans pack the bar and root for their favorite teams, be the Laker, Dodgers, Rams, whatever favorite sports team is in season.

I’m told the 10-year anniversary customer appreciation celebration is just the beginning of the fun at Gym Bar. On November 8th, the bar will also hold their annual Draggle-Rock, a drag charity event where the staff dresses up in drag and performs. This must-not-to-be-missed evening also supports GLSEN Los Angeles.
Let’s all lift a glass to celebrate Gym Sportsbar WeHo. Here’s hoping they continued their good fortune for another 10 years of service.
