Gym Sportsbar Bar & Grill is Being Revamped Under New Ownership

Gym Sportsbar Bar & Grill is under new ownership, and this week, the West Hollywood gay bar located at 8919 Santa Monica Blvd is undergoing renovations. New owners Erik Braverman and his husband, Jonathan Cottrell, tell WEHO TIMES that renovations will happen in phases.

The bar has been closed since this past Sunday and will reopen this Friday at 4 p.m. Braverman said he doesn’t think the bar will close for further renovations, but they may need to close off sections being remodeled to their liking.

The new owners were seen trying the locks of the doors in their bar. Cottrell said Wednesday was their first day at their new establishment. They changed the locks and were getting to know the Gym Bar employees.

Erik Braverman, the openly gay senior vice president of the Los Angeles Dodgers, his husband Cottrell, and other investors under Bravecoot Ventures LLC, acquired Gym Sportsbar and Grill in West Hollywood back in March (also known as Gym Bar).

Braverman and Cottrell are West Hollywood residents. They both exchanged vows in front of close friends and family at Dodgers Stadium in January 2022.

In a joint statement, Braverman and Cottrell expressed their dedication to preserving and enhancing Gym Sportsbar’s legacy, envisioning it as a beacon of community, diversity, and excellence in West Hollywood. They emphasized their goal of creating an inclusive space that respects the past while embracing the future, fostering connections and camaraderie among patrons, according to OUTSPORTS.

Gym Sportsbar dates back to 2005 when it first opened as Gym Bar in NY. The WeHo location first opened in October 2, 2009, at 8737 Santa Monica Boulevard. It closed at that location shortly after celebrating 10 years in 2022. It reopened a few blocks away at its current location as Gym Sportsbar and Grill in 2021.

Rick Schmutzler, one of the founders of Gym Sportsbar, expressed confidence in Braverman and Cottrell, stating they are well-positioned to lead Gym Sportsbar into the future with new partnerships and opportunities. With over a decade of operation in Los Angeles and a recent relocation to West Hollywood, Schmutzler is stepping away from the business, trusting Braverman and Cottrell to guide its trajectory.

Operating a bar entails significant effort, but Braverman and Cottrell affirm their readiness for the task ahead, supported by their entire investment team.

Was at Gym Bar several weeks ago and enjoyed myself. The only thing I would change is the size of the counter. It is too small.A larger counter should be able to handle the crowds when they come in.Also,it would allow more visitors to sit down.

No honey, that bar counter is strictly for order taking of liquor you buy a drink you go out and chitchat with everyone on the patio. It’s not for you and other fat asses to be sitting at the counter. We don’t wanna look at your fat ass …also cause most of the people that go there are fat …when we walked into a bar we want to see the cute bartenders.

Nobody wants to sit at a bar with their back to the boulevard. Look at the other bars on Santa Monica, and the customers sitting at the bars have a view of SM Blvd. The new owner should fix this.

I miss going to The Halal Guys when it was located on that spot. Now you just order online and, they call or text you when the bot or delivery person has your order ready at your place.

Your fat ass has never once sat down at any of these establishments and served any food or drinks in order to obtain a receipt! Steve Martin said ” it would be an act of God if any one Actually saw you Inside instead of just loitering walking back-and-forth every night with your nappy hair undone as a matter fact I’ve seen newer wigs at the Goodwill! Open yur wallet for JUST once!

The real issue is why Jerome hasn’t been fined. His derriere is large enough for the city to require an encroachment permit as he loiters on the sidewalk.

You should get an agent. When I see your face I think Wegovy “before” picture.

They can’t do any worst than when Rick Schmutzler had it. He got involved with a Woman that ran an App called Barseen. And she stole the money her investors gave her. She stole thier money. And Rick Schmutzler helped her hide the money she stole. And he had to go to Court. And now has to pay the Court a lot of Money. And it’s enough money he has to pay that made him have to sell Gym Bar. The one in West Hollywood. . Google his name. It’s all over the internet. Google Krissy Schuh Barseen Fraud. Or… Read more »
