Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) performed a free one-hour concert at the main lawn of West Hollywood Park on Saturday June 17, 2023. The event was part of the City’s WeHo Pride Arts Festival programing.
Community members brought blankets and beach chairs and gathered on the lawn to watch the sunset and celebrate pride month with 50 members from the GMCLA who performed songs some of their most popular concerts: QUEEN, MOTOWN, SONDHIEM and POP DIVAS! They covered songs from Miley Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and the did a medley of Madonna songs lead by music director and conductor, Dr. Ernest H. Harrison.

Lou Spisto, the Executive Director and Producer of GMCLA thanked the City of West Hollywood for inviting them back for WeHo Pride (the performed at Plummer Park last year for the WeHo Pride Arts Festival). He also thanked the crowd for joining them that evening.
Spisto acknowledged the significance of performing at West Hollywood Park. He pointed out how 15 years ago people got married when same sex-marriage became legal in California. “People were getting married all throughout this exact spot,” he told the crowd. He then pointed to two chorus members who were married that day and now stand next to each other in the chorus 15 years later.
“This is part of what we do,” he said. “We are in parks. We are in recreation centers. We go to hospitals. We are everywhere throughout the county and the southland all year long.”
GMCLA will be performing at one of the biggest stages they’ve ever set foot on, which is the Walt Disney Concert Hall next weekend with a 25-piece orchestra which is bigger than most Broadway shows. They will be performing Disney songs while a large projection screen will be playing scenes from classic Disney movies. They are performing 50 songs from over 20 films at a two-and-a-half-hour concert.
