West Hollywood’s free weekend ride, The WeHo Pickup, announced it has resumed regular opearting hours and is now running until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Running from Robertson to La Brea along Santa Monica Blvd, the WeHo Pickup us back with free rides on Fridays and Saturday from 8pm to 3am, and on Sun from 2pm-10pm.
The hours of operation for Fridays and Saturdays were temporarily changed from 8pm to 1pm Fridays and Saturday nights back in October 2021 (hours for Sunday remained the same). The limited hours were a safety measure during the a surge of the COVID-19 omicron variant.
Riders are required to wear a mask when using The PickUp. Masks are available in the trolleys for riders who do not have one. Masks must remain in place and cover your nose and mouth at all times during the ride. These who are sick are asked not to ride the PickUp for the safety of others.
The WeHo PickUp project was initiated by council member John D’Amico and former council member John Duran. It is a fun, flirtatious, and lighthearted trolley service that was launched by the City of West Hollywood as a pilot program in 2013. The program was continued in 2014 and, in 2015, a route extension was approved along Santa Monica Boulevard in a loop with stops in each direction between N. Robertson Boulevard and N. La Brea Avenue. Service was paused in March 2020 following the City’s Declaration of Local Emergency and regional Safer at Home orders.
The PickUp resumes offering a safe and convenient way to reach a destination in the City of West Hollywood on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It continues to provide a cool and convenient alternative to driving, but most importantly it reduces driving while intoxicated. Launched with a bright palette of illustrated graphic pop-art characters, The PickUp emorged from the COVID-19 lockdown with newly refreshed photo-based characters with new typefaces, logos, and designs. The soft-launch launch this past October featured a roll-out of one trolley featuring new graphics and additional trolleys in the fleet will be refreshed in the coming weeks.
